Lounging on the Lanai at Waikiki Beach

A May 2005 trip to Honolulu by Gloria381948

The very first time I had been to any of the islands, was just amazing!! The people are sooo friendly!! Seeing Diamond Head was beautiful!! It is soo very clean there, and I really didn't find the beaches overly crowded. I had an amazing time!!

One of the best things to do while in Honolulu would be to go to the Arizona Memorial/Pearl Harbor. You see quite a bit of history. Very moving, and you actually see the USS Arizona right beneath you. I shall not forget that site!

Quick Tips:

You can get discount coupons at any newsstand located on the streets. This Week in Oahu is a very good magazine to get, lots of coupons and information in it. There are various magazines at these stands.

Best Way To Get Around:

The best public transportation would be TheBus. You can buy a 4-day Discovery Bus Pass for at any ABC store on the island. You can get on and off any TheBus for 4 consecutive days!!

We stayed in the Oceanarium Tower of the Pacific Beach Hotel. There are two towers, the Beach Tower, and the Oceanarium Tower. We had a partial ocean-view room, private lanai facing Diamond Head/Pacific Ocean. There were two double beds in the room. There are smoking and non-smoking floors in the hotel. There is an Oceanarium Restaurant that has part of a 280,000 gallon "fish tank." Buffet breakfast was great!!

This is an awesome sunset buffet dinner cruise!! It is a 2 hour cruise above the Navatek 1. You have all kinds of different food: Kahala Chicken, MahiMahi fish, fruit, garlic mashed potatoes, etc. It cost $63.00 per adult, but you get the 2 hour cruise, entertainment, and a full buffet. Plus you see the amazing sunset as it descends on Diamond Head!!All in all a wonderful time!!

You get on a small pontoon boat that takes you out to the Arizona Memorial. You view the wall that has all of the names of the people that were killed during the attack of December 7,1941 on Pearl Harbor. The USS Arizona is right beneath your feet. You pay homage to the people that were killed on that fatal day.

You can learn to surf there, eat at one of the tables, swim, watch the surfers, and view the amazing sunsets! You can also just sit and "people watch." Just sit back and relax!!

Waikiki Beach
Waikiki Honolulu

Last May, we rented a car to take our own Circle Island Tour of Oahu, HI. We went to the Dole Pineapple Plantation, drove past Chinaman's Hat, North Shore (where they have the surfing contests)—mighty big waves! Just took our time riding around the island. It was fun to just "hang loose" and do it on "Hawaiian time."
