Just when you've had enough of paintings and think you can't look at another one, this one provides a pleasant surprise. The painting is a life size scene of Scheveningen that hangs 14m tall and wraps around a 120m circumference to provide a 360 degree view of the area as Willen Mesdag saw it in 1881. As you stand in a rotunda on top of a sand dune, it's hard to discern where the "real world" ends and the painting begins. This is virtual reality as the Vitorians knew it. Unfortunately, no pictures are allowed, and the advertising leaflet does not do it justice, although it is a bit on the pricey side at €5 for an adult entry.Take a trip to Scheveningen afterwards and compare it to the real thing!

There are interactive displays that immerse the visitor in Escher's world. Take a ride into virtual reality and explore Escher's works as they come to life. Or have fun with your size in the "Room of Escher," where dimensions aren't quite what they seem. A nice additional touch is chandeliers in various shapes and forms, such as a spider or a skull and crossbones. Like many Dutch an...Read More
