I've learned my lesson! Whenever a place requires full prepayment, BEWARE!
As soon as we opened the door to the room at this dump, we were assailed with stale cigarette smoke (we'd requested nonsmoking) and overwhelming noxious fumes that caused our eyes, noses, and throats to burn and water. I went to the desk, got a key to another "nonsmoking" room, walked past another room where the door was left wide open so the occupants could breathe, and opened the door to another cloud of horrible fumes. It was back to the desk, where the night clerk (oh, and did I mention that this it was already after 10pm) called the manager, Armin, who refused any responsibility and said I'd have to call our travel provider for help.
We left, along with the guys who checked in right ahead of us, and drove 40 miles back to Louisville, where we found a room.
I called our travel provider, but they require an authorization from the hotel to credit us. I have called my credit card company and the BBB, both of which require a written report to be completed and mailed back, and spent nearly 3 hours trying to get a refund.
