Rainy Days in Vegas Always Get Me Down

Overview

Quote:
Despite the overwhelming array of eateries, the best meal I experienced was at the tried and true Rainforest Cafe inside the MGM.

Quick Tips:

When flying roundtrip from Los Angeles, be ready for delays if rain is in the forecast for either city.

Best Way To Get Around:

Even in cold weather, there's nothing like walking the Vegas Strip. The constant visual and aural stimuli keep your feet moving.

Caesars Palace

Before the opulence of Venetian and Bellagio, Caesar''s Palace was the standard by which all Las Vegas luxury hotels were measured; however, times they are a changin''. Despite their attempt to expand and revitalize their empire, Caesar''s Palace accommodations remain ever adequate. Their rooms are neither sumptuously decorated nor generously sized. They may be classified as clean, quiet holding chambers between the night''s activities. They provide nothing more than a regular hotel experience. It is true that the proximity of the hotel to the Forum Shoppes is convenient; however, given the various covered walksways, trams, and entrances, it''s just as convenient from any other South Las Vegas Bl...Read More

Pharoah's Pheast Buffet

Restaurant | "Pharoah's Pheast"

I'd equate this buffet as only a slight step above cafeteria style food. The choices are familiar and adequately prepared and maintained. A large salad/soup bar, Mexican staples such as tacos and enchiladas, Pizza/Pasta, a smattering of seafood, various prepared meats with sauces and an assortment of cakes/pies/sundae bar. The wait at 9:30 in the evening was roughly 20 minutes. You are herded through a roped maze as you pay in advance for your safari.

The only thing that led us here was the fact that they serve 24 hours. The wait for a party of 3 at 10:00 in the evening was 40 minutes. Then, you are treated to a 15-20 minute wait for service. My mother and I opted for the fried seafood entrees. The scallops were dry and over cooked as were the fish fillet and shrimp. My father got the traditional steak and eggs. The steak was as hard as a charcoal brick. Luckily he ordered sunny side up eggs, so they didn't manage to render those inedible.

Tsunami Asian Grill

The minimalist decor is what draws you into this charming sushi bar/restaurant. The waitstaff is efficient and attractive. The menu incorporates tastes of Japan with Thai and Chinese dishes. We sampled some Asian staples such as a Rainbow Sushi Roll, Shrimp Tempura and Pad Thai. The sushi was not impressively prepared, however the fish was fresh and delicate. The Shrimp Tempura, unbeknownst to us, was mixed with Tempura vegetables as well. Expect three shrimp to an order. The pad Thai was spicier than most, but generously proportioned. It's not out of this world cuisine, but it's a great place for a casual lunch that's reasonably priced and good tasting.

Rainforest Cafe

After having been to several Rainforest Cafes, I can honestly say this is one of the most consistently satisfying chain restaurants out there. The atmosphere is fun in a theme park kind of way - with large aquariums with exotic fish, jungle murals, reproductions of artificial fauna and animatronic elephants, apes and monkeys. The menu offers a variety of foods from the standard hamburger/chicken finger fare to full dinners such as the Rumba Ribs and Mayan Meatloaf. They also carry a wide array of fruit blended drinks and a full bar. I've sampled practically everything on the menu, and I've never been left down. I especially enjoy their spin on traditional foods such as catfish fil...Read More

Blue Man Group at The Venetian

PERCUSSION. Expect that if you're going to see the Blue Man group. BAM, BAM, BAM...RAT TAT TAT. That's what it's going to be for about an hour and a half. I have to say that I was quite excited about having the opportunity to see this much talked about group. But in the end, I ended up with nothing but a headache and a fat bill. I guess I expected some skits and some miming and some off the wall comedy. I got a little of that...in between the drum solo antics. From the start you see that it's going to be an interactive experience. An electronically streaming banner encourages you to cheer for individual audience members. And then...it starts. A drum explosion with silouhettes of the differen...Read More
