Summertime in Colorado

A July 2003 trip to Manitou Springs by RyanT

Colorado is a great destination to travel all year round, not just during the winter but the summer too. There are numerous activities for the whole family. There is rafting, gambling, ATV’s, shopping, and more. And Colorado’s scenery is beautiful during the summertime.

I absolutely recommend taking the Pike’s Peak Cog Railway. Pike’s Peak is one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. It’s so beautiful that it inspired Katherine Lee Bates to write the song “America the Beautiful.” The scenery on the train ride was awesome. And there was a lot of wild life. We saw long horn sheep, elks, groundhogs, many types of birds, and even a couple bears. Being at the top of Pike’s Peak felt like being on top of the world. You could see for hundreds of miles. At the summit there is a souvenir and snack shop. The summit is a great place for taking photos. I suggest taking a jacket because it can get pretty cold up there. The Pike’s Peak Cog Railway is a fun trip for people of all ages. And, it is something that I would definitely do again.

Garden of the GodsBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

Garden of the Gods was beautiful and educational. But I wouldn’t recommend it for families, because the kids would probably get bored. Garden of the Gods is a 700 acre park with huge, odd-shaped, sandstone rock formations. There is a big learning center in the park. It gives you information on the history of the park, native Americans that lived in the area, and the local wildlife. There is also a nice gift shop.

What I enjoyed most about the park is the rock formations and landscape of the area. It was beautiful. A bad thing about Garden of the Gods is that there was a lot of traffic on the roads that went through the park. So it was hard to take your time and look at all the rocks and stuff. Garden of the Gods was over all a nice trip. But it’s something you only would want to do if you really didn’t have anything to do. That is the only reason I went there anyway.
