Paradise Found

Overview

Quote:
The two islands called Pulau Perhentians on the East Coast of Malaysia are the perfect place to relax in the hammock, walk bare foot, go snorkeling or scuba diving….The two islands are very close to each other. One is small and therefore called Pulau Kecil (=small island) and the other one is called Pulau Besar (=big island). I have never stayed on Pulau Kecil, but heard that it gets very crowded and loud there. More for party people. Pulau Besar on the other hand is still very quiet and perfect for a relaxing holiday.Whenever I get off the boat on the island, I take my shoes off and do not put them back on until I leave. There are no roads on the island, just jungle, beach, and the be...Read More

Abdul's is the best that can happen to you on the Perhentians. Simple, but beautiful. Twenty chalets, right on the beach. Bring your own hammock. There is plenty of space to hang it. The beach at Abdul's is also excellent. It is usually very empty, as it is at the end of the bay and you can actually walk in the water and swim. (Many other beaches have very shallow water and the coral reef starts right when you get in.)Abdul's is run by Abdul and his family. Everyone is extremely nice and helpful. They even took my father out with them in the morning to buy the fresh fish from the fisher boats. Or how about getting a fresh coconut picked right off the tree.The restaurant se...Read More

At Abdul's you get great food... every day they buy fresh seafood right from the fisher boats off the coast in the early morning. They get lobster, crab, shark, squid... it's absolutely delicious. The restaurant is open all day. For dinner, I would especially recommend the barbecue (choose your fish, meat, seafood at the grill), but I don't think I ever ate anything that was not excellent.At night, you can sit right at the ocean, with the feet in the sand looking at the stars... it's very romantic!The restaurant and chalets are owned by Abdul and run by the whole family. Everyone is extremely nice. Out of courtesy towards the family's religion (Islam), please do not go th...Read More

Nice, but small dive center, very close to Abdul's.

Prices are very good!!!
In 2004: 125$ for PADI Open-Water Course

Check out my favorite dive sites:
-> Terembu Tiga
-> Secret Reef
-> Sugar Wreck
-> Tokonglaut

But always watch out for the Trigger Fish.They tend to be aggressive around here (like on Ko Tao).

What you will definitely see:
- Reef sharks, bamboo sharks, nurse sharks
- Turtles
- Puffer, Porcupine
- Stingrays
- Napoleon
- Angel fish
- Box fish

and many many more...
