A March 2006 trip to Tobago Cays by waveman
Quote: Tobago is fantastic, you have all the pleasures of the other Caribbean Islands, but without the over commercialization. Beaches are spectacular, food is excellent, everyone is friendly and there is a wide choice of activities such as diving and hiking to choose from. Well worth getting off the beaten track.
Hotel
Best Things Nearby:Store Bay Beach and the food vendors. Store Bay is a relaxed beach as popular with local as with tourists. Though the island has excellent beaches, especially the renowned Pigeon Point, I found Store Bay which was in walking distance just as good as the others. Food in general is excellent, and Store Bay has range vendors selling large portions of local dishes for about US$5. Eat, drink and swim to your hearts content (though not necessarily in that order) and all under the sun.Best Things About the Resort:What makes this resort stand out from anywhere else I have visited is the staff, not one member in particular, but all. From housekeeping to the front desk, everyone made you feel as if you were a ‘regular’ and retuning for yet another vacation. Very special mention needs to be made of some the key staff that made our vacation so fantastic. Becky who had so much patience when out little boys sought to ‘help’ with the house keeping. Crystal and Tasha at the front desk, and Elvira who ran the evening’s activities. Lastly John and Roger. Resort Experience:The rooms are not lavish, but have everything you may want. You will be spending most of your time outside in any case enjoying the pool, hot tubs and sea breeze. The only small let down is that the beach that is at the resort is not the best for bathing. However, Store Bay, which is 10-minute walk, is excellent. You still have the beachfront at the resort and the views to yourself. I say to yourself because this is not a sprawling Hotel with many anonymous sun worshiper or laid out on deck chairs. The size of the resort (mid size) lends itself to laid back interaction among the guests, especially in the evenings as resort activities get underway. Bingo will never be the same again (with the necessary quantities of rum punch). All in all if you are looking for a relaxed, informal atmosphere to unwind without the overbearing commercialized feel of some the larger resorts, this is the place to be. Remember all activities are close by and can be arranged by the helpful staff at the resort.
