The oldest continuous zoo site in Texas, the Fort Worth Zoo was founded in 1909. Since then it has become one of the best and biggest zoos, with nationally ranked facility, housing more than 350 native and exotic species.

The Fort Worth Zoo has many animals and activities. There is so much to do and see here. In the springtime you can see many baby animals as well. Most of the animals are out and are very active especially in the springtime when it is still a little cooler.

The Zoo has recently added an Australia exhibit, which has exotic fish, kangaroos, and a huge sand box for the kids. The Wild West section also has a petty zoo and an activity room for the kids to play and run around in.

There are many restaurants and covered picnic tables for enjoying a lunch. The zoo also has tons of vending machines and ice cream shacks to quench your taste buds while enjoying the zoo. There is a gift shop at the main entrance and several penny machines though out which also make great seminars.

The zoo hours are:

Feb 18-Mar 31 10am-5pm.
Apr 1-Oct  10am-5pm (weekdays), 10am-6pm (weekends)
Oct-Feb 10am-4pm

Admission:

Adults: $10.50
Kids(3-12): $8
Toddlers under 2: FREE
Seniors: $7
There is also a parking fee and it is $5.
On Wednesday’s is half price day at the zoo.

The zoo rents strollers, wagons and a few wheel chairs, and is wheel chair accessible.

If you are looking for a great way to spend some time with the kids hop on over to the Fort Worth Zoo.

Gateway softball fields
Do you like softball? What about a place to let your dog go without a leash? Well Gateway is a park packed with many activities and facilities for everyone, that's right every one.

Gateway has four to eight softball fields which host several softball tournaments throughout the spring and summer months. The soft ball tournament is an all day event with games starting at 9:00am. The park staff is very friendly and the people and umpires that attend these events seem to be very nice. There are several teams that play and each group of teams is placed in a different class based on the amount of talent. There is an A class all the way down to the E class, our boys play in the D class, this helps to make the competition equally spread out. If you play D class you better not hit one out of the fence or else you can expect to get an out. In the E-class your team gets ejected from the tournament, this is one way they keep the talent equally and give everyone a fair shot to play. It seems to work out well and many of the guys like the rules.

The guys seems to have a lot of fun and are able to play without being too competitive and getting upset.

There is a lot of shade at each field and lots of trees to help with the heat. They do provide a concession stand and give out free ice.

Another highlight to Gateway is the Woof Park, it is a dog park that allows you to bring big and small dogs to run wild and have fun while you too can enjoy the nice weather. There is a side for big dogs and a side for small dogs. You just come in and let your dog run.

Gateway also has soccer fields, a kids playground, picnic tables, a covered pavilion and a bike path. The scenery is great. It is a wonderful place to spend the day. There is something for everyone and it is conveiently located in downtown Fort Worth.

Batting cages
There is a place where adults can just as much fun as kids can. It’s a place called Putt-Putt Golf and games. A group of 12 adults took a little outing here. It was great. Now I have a 2-year old son and I left him at home. I felt like I was him at Chuck- E-Cheese. We had a blast.

First of all for $10 you get to play four games/rides. Now here is what that consists of:
1 ride on the bumper boats
or
1 ride on the go carts
or
1 game of putt- putt golf
or
4 tokens for the batting cages
or
20 tokens for the inside games which you can ear tickets for which you can then turn in for prizes.
Or
There are other little games and rides for the children.
Now our ticket was good for any four of the things listed above. I choose to do the bumper boats with a small group; the go-carts twice and then do the batting cages. All this for ten dollars this was well worth my money.

Our group had a great time and enjoyed feeling like a kid. I have to say that all the rides lasted long enough to feel as though you got your moneys worth, I know by the second round on the go carts I was ready to be done. There is so much to do and so many choices that it would make a great place for a hang out, a group a date or even a party for the younger ones.

There are many other options of how to pay for rides. You can pay for each thing individually for like $4 apiece, you can get two hours for $12 or you can buy two for $6, three for $9 and four for $10. Which ever you choose you will have a great time and feel like a kid again.

Putt-Putt also has a food court and tables where you can eat or throw a kids party. They have other packages and coupons for these things as well. For more information check out their web site at www.putt-puttgolf.com/putt-putt/hurst/hurst.html

Chirstmas
This review is gooing to be written in 2 parts. When we go on a date we do two main things, eat and hang out. So this first part is about food and dinning on our annual date night.

Having a little one sometimes can keep you so busy that you never get to spend a moment alone with your spouse. So for Early Christmas we decided we would go out for a date and enjoy some time together. For two years now, we choose to go to downtown Fort Worth to Sundance Square. We come here because there is so much to do and so many places to choose from for dinner. We have enjoyed coming in December because everything is covered in lights. The whole area is lit up for the Holidays and it is such a great place to be when it is.

Every year we come down here and we get all dressed up and we go to dinner and walk around. The first year we ate at Mi Cosina, an upscale, sophisticated Mexican eatery that has great food. The atmosphere there is perfect for a romantic, and quite dinner. The lights are dimmed, we sat next to the glass doors and the music is peaceful. Such a treat for two people who rarely get to talk to each other and about each other. The food here is great and the service is always top notch.

Then this year we ate at a place called Billy Minors, a little step down from the year before, but never the less still great food and a wonderful experience. This place is a little less sophisticated and rather loud but had great food. I ate a hamburger and my husband had a chilidog. Now I have to tell you my husband is not really a fan of chilidogs and I can’t believe that any one would ever eat one out for dinner, but he swears they are the best he has ever had. Now I took a bit but it was still just a chilidog. Still we enjoyed our dinner and were off to do what we do next.
Starbucks
This is the second part of our annual date night review. I decided it would be best to separate them since there are two main things we do on our dates. We eat and we hang out. I have already told you about our eating experiences now I will tell you what we do to hang out in downtown Fort Worth.

The first thing we do after we get done eating dinner is walk to Starbucks and get coffee. The first year we did this we sat there and talked for 2 hours. It amazing how much you have to talk about when it is just the two of you. We had such a great time just sitting there.

This past year when we went to Starbucks we got our drinks and walked around for a while looking at all the lights and talking. As we were walking we came upon some bright lights and a gathering of people. Once we found out what was going on we were quite surprised. One of the movie theaters was hosting the Lone Star Film Festival. Shortly after that we saw Bill Paxton (from Twister), Fred Durst (Limp Biscuit) and Jason Ritter (son of John Ritter). They were all walking the red carpet. This was quite a surprise and kind of exciting as well.

Our next stop is always Barns and Noble Book store. We come here after we do coffee. We like to walk around the store and look at all the books then we pick out a few of our favorite magazines, pick a little corner and hide in it and read our magazines for a little while. It sounds so simple but it is very relaxing.

Our date might sounds boring to some, but for us its perfect. A nice romantic, sometimes quite dinner, a cup of coffee and some one on one time and then a trip to catch up and relax on current events, interests or anything else we might not get more than 5 minutes of peace to read. If you have children you might understand. We do this once a year, and have the best time.
