The city by the bay captured my heart as it does all who experience it. The sea lions on the wharf, amazed by the street mimes, crab and clam chowder in a sourdough bowl, Dobie Gillis's THINKER, a Rodin sculpture at the museum, watching the ti chi experts in Chinatown.

Hike up Telegraph Hill for extraordinary views. Take in the Haight Asbury street festival in June and check out the campy vintage shopping. We bought an old formal in pink! Stroll the Golden Gate Park, Eat at Scoma's, the Stinkin Rose, and the seafood on the wharf. Go with all the tourists to Alcatraz and BE SURE and get the headphones that make it come ALIVE. Have coffee at Buena Vista, where Irish coffee was created. Don't miss the wine country, both Napa and Sonoma.

Be sure and have bellinis at the culinary institute! Have dim sum in Chinatown, visit a herbalist doc and tour a cookie factory, Sip expresso from a sidewalk cafe with biscotti in Northbeach, champagne at sunset at the Mark Hopkins with it's killer views!

Quick Tips:

Wear comfortable shoes cause you are going to do some walking here! Explore and enjoy

Best Way To Get Around:

A walking city. Public transportation is a delight! The cablecars are a MUST. Fleet rides to Alcatraz. Limos to the wine country. Buses to the museum. Don't drive, there is no place to park and it is expensive and difficult on brakes. It is law to turn your tires away from the sidewalk when you do park. Take a taxi down Lombardy, the crookedest street in the world, it is breathtaking!!

Location, location, location! Close to it all. The concierge sucks, avoid. The rooms are basic, but the price is right. Denny''s on property open 24 hours is pretty convenient.

This is A MUST. Our waiter was delightful. Quiet colorful, he made it a dining experience. He has been there Forever. Roasted garlic everything, I am sure my heart was happy and the vampires were not.

The greatest clam chowder in the city! Water views and a bit off the beaten track. EVERYTHING is delightful. Always busy, but worth the wait. You must try the local sand dabs-- they are delicious!

Buena Vista

I would not THINK of visiting San Francisco and NOT coming here several times. THIS is where Irish coffee was invented and they do it Right! Real whipped cream, real stout Irish whiskey, real he-man coffee. They have got it DOWN! On the cable car line.

Greens

Restaurant

When your teens become vegetarians, what's a mother to do? These same people who refused to eat their peas and carrots growing up, exsisting only on grilled cheese, french fries, peanut butter and hot dogs, now refuse steak! So here's to families who eat together and enjoy it! Everything is great! Be sure not to miss incredible food and desserts.

Greens

Like a scene out of a movie set, the streets are crowded with petitioners who want to legalize weed, huge snakes, yes they are real, wrapped around necks of bearded men, or are they men? is it costumes or is it drag? Street food includes shark tacos-- terrific! Live bands & vintage shops.
