Boston Journals

On the Outskirts of Boston

A travel journal to Boston by m2fernandes

Quote: Boston can be a wonderful place with the historical features, fine dining, and shopping. But there are other places just outside of town that are excellent, too.

Fuddruckers can be found in four locations around the Boston area: Reading, North Andover, Saugus, and Logan Airport in Terminal A. For this particular journal, I am focusing on the one in Reading. This location can be found inside Jordan's Furniture just off I-95/128.The menu was somewhat small since they do focus mostly on hamburgers. Their burgers come in 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, and 1 lb sizes. All of the burgers are served on a toasted bun. You can get a wide variety of cheeses and toppings placed on top of your chosen burger. Or, if you can't decide you can go for one of their specialty burgers. For the cold condiments, they have a "produce bar" to stack as much as you would like onto ...Read More

Joe's American Bar & Grill

Joe's American Bar and Grill is located in Braintree in the South Shore Plaza, which is just off I-93. To start off, you get a round loaf of warm bread that you have to slice into yourself. Accompanying the bread is butter. Now for some reason, the butter, I find, is one of the perks. Even though you get bread, go for an appetizer, too. I would say the spinach dip. It comes with pita and tortilla chips. And if you are in the mood, make sure you get a cup of New England clam chowder. The menu is your American-style food. Burgers, steaks, fish, and fajitas all priced from $8 to $18 (give or take). I've had the burger, fajitas, and quesadillas several times. All have been really ex...Read More

Located about 45 minutes south of Boston, this is a unique take on dinner and a movie. This restaurant/theater combines dinner and a movie into one event. The movies are either a few weeks old or just out of the theaters. Tickets are $5 each. The movies themselves are good movies and not flops. When you get to the theater, go for a table in the middle aisle, I think its some of the better seats. The atmosphere is favorable. Black swivel chairs with 2 to 4 seats available per table. Get to the theater a bit before show time so you can order food. Prices are VERY reasonable. Grilled pizzas range from $6-$8, appetizers are from $3 to $7, burgers are around $6.50. They offer a s...Read More

What better way to spend St. Patty's Day while in Boston, but to attend the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. This parade is so much fun. The young and old, families or singles, it is a blast! Here you will see politicians, school bands from the area, Irish music, floats, and so much more. People will stake out their claim on the parade route hours before it starts. Usually the parade starts at 1pm on Broadway (by the T station), continues throughout the streets of South Boston, and ends in Andrews Square around 4ish.If you are young, it is easy to make friends along the parade route. Often people welcome you into their home and end up continuing the celebrations there. It a great festival to atte...Read More

Located off of 495 (45 minutes south of Boston or 30 minutes north of Providence), Wrentham Village is one of the larger outlet shopping malls in New England. Sure North Conway has outlets, but I really feel that Wrentham has much more to offer. New shops are constantly opening. Recently "Under Armour," "Juicy Couture," "White House/Black Market," and "UGG" shops were just opened. Some of the larger retailers you'll find are: Gap, Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers, Lacoste, Ann Taylor, Aldo, Ralph Lauren/Polo, Eddie Bauer, Bass, BCBG, Guess, Coach, Fossil, Restoration Hardware, Burberry, and the list goes on. There is ample parking all around the facility. Buses and groups are welc...Read More
