Blu Bar has changed

A February 2006 trip to Vieques by Tom1943

The Blu Bar looks the same, but the menu has changed.

Restaurant

Cafe Media Luna may have the best food on Vieques, and it is not the most expensive place to dine (that nod goes to Uva, down the street). They also have a very good, fairly reasonable, wine list and very professional service. Dinner for two, with a mid-priced bottle of wine, will run about $100 before tip. A few words to the wise: (1) Make a reservation and ask to be seated upstairs. The downstairs bar room is noisier and just not as pleasant.
(2) Parties of two should ask for a table in the upstairs windows.
(3) On Saturday nights there can be a lot of street noise. However, it's also fun to watch the young kids ride down the street on their horses.

Blu BarBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

The Blu bar used to be great; a happening place, with great food. It was more fun to eat there than in the Blue Macaw restaurant, because the food was largely the same and you didn't need a reservation. However, due to a fire, the Blue Macaw was closed all of 2005 and just reopened in February 2006 with a new name (Carambola), menu, and chef. The menu is not as interesting as it was before, and the food is not as good. It's still a terrific spot physically—very casual and tropical—but the food isn't the same.
