I traveled the last week of August, through the first week of September with two girlfriends to Croatia. While we had great expectations about Croatia from other travelers and various resources, as soon as we arrived we agreed that Croatia was well beyond all of our expectations. The beautiful landscape, beaches, the food, wine, people, weather, the sea... everything was amazing. We spent a few days in Dubrovnik, then took the fairy to Hvar for a few days... we fell in love with Havar as we had plans to go to Split, we decided to stay in Hvar. We took the audio tour in Dubrovnik which was very interesting to learn about the old city and the more recent war. The highlight of Dubrovnik was our accommodation—we stayed at the Hotel Neptun. It was the perfect location, not right in the center of Dubrovnik, but just a 10 minute bus ride outside. It was very quiet and the beaches were incredible. Everyone at the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. There was a man who worked the front desk, who was so fantastic, he was always making conversations and telling stories and so helpful with all of our requests. We had a wonderful room with a sea view, the room was very comfortable for all 3 of us. We had a lot of fun in Dubrovnik, discovering that there are many hidden restaurants/bars in the cliffs by the water. "Cold drinks" were mentioned in a few articles we had read, but I am not sure if we made it to the "cold drinks", but did discover a couple unlisted places on our own. There is a nightlife scene in Dubrovnik, many fun bars and clubs. We made Hemingway's a stop almost every night to have a drink before going out dancing, etc.We took the fairy from Dubrovnik to Hvar, it took almost a day, but it was very relaxing. Hvar is incredible—so many boats traveling though the islands. Every night there were so many new people. The palm trees mixed with the marble architecture were amazing. The smell of lavender and the sea was intoxicating. Hvar has incredible beaches, excursions, diving, food, and nightlife. We had a lot of fun at Carpe Diem and another little bar Kiva (where most of the locals go as Carpe Diem can be somewhat of a scene).

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Hotel Neptune is the perfect place to stay in Dubrovnik. The hotel's beach is incredible and the hotel is somewhat isolated and quiet. You can catch the bus at the end of the street, and it is only a 10-minute ride into the city. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, the rooms are clean (with beautiful views of the sea), and the breakfast is wonderful. The restaurant is wonderful, too—try the Pag salad, the best! I would definitely recommend the Hotel Neptune for anyone visiting Dubrovnik.
