One Week of Skiing in Massanutten

A February 2006 trip to Massanutten by Queine

We went here on a skiing trip with the family and found ourselves in a true and wonderful family oriented resort. Stayed in a well equipped, two-bedroom apartment at the Hillside Summit.

Best Things Nearby:
Being foreign citizens, we loved the shopping area near Harrisonburg, a 10-minute drive from the resort. It offered us, amongst others, Barnes and Noble, Ross, Walmart and Home Depot.

Best Things About the Resort:
The size and the number of activities available were great. The newly opened water park is a wonderful addition, even though it is still rather small. We were told it will be expanded soon to twice its size. The skiing was great for our 7 year olds. They were second time skiers, and with the help of the teachers in the ski school they quickly went to the top of the mountain. The classes were small and they received a lot of personal attention.

Resort Experience:
With only 13 trails, the mountain was a little boring for us adults after a few days. We loved the space and the surroundings of the resort. It is a huge resort, so a car is a must. The apartment was roomy and included every need, with the exception of a hair dryer. We loved to sit around the fireplace in the evening hours. Our apartment was located at hillside and we had a great view over the ski slopes. We enjoyed tubing as well. And since there was no snow at the base we could even play a couple of rounds of midget golf, and the golfers could play a couple of rounds of golf. On a daily (or better nightly) basis, snow was made on the slopes. We were not always impressed by the way the telephone operators treated us when we had questions; they could be rather harsh at times. Fortunately, however, we met a lot of friendly and helpful staff members as well.
