Attraction

First of all, I LOVE Austin and visit several times per year.

The Speakeasy is a nice place. That's about the only positive thing I can say about it. First of all, you have to enter via an alley... which is fine... until you get inside and all of the employees act like they are too high class to serve you. I waited (at a nearly empty bar) for 15 minutes for the bartender to finish making two martinis, to serve my friend and me. When, I finally did get served, the guy (who thought he was Tom Cruise from Cocktail) gave me a TON of attitude, and rudley slammed my change down.

Bad service (with an attitude) seems to be the way of the Speakeasy. The people who work here are waaayyy too impressed with themselves. I don't mind overpaying for drinks, but, I should not have been made to feel like I was bothering the help.

The thing that makes Austin a great place is that it is a laid back city, with friendly people. The Speakeasy does NOT reflect the city—it thinks that it's a New York or L.A. bar. Don't go here if you like to have fun and feel welcome.
