Overview

This is actually 3 resorts in 1. Our group stayed in the Iberostar Bavaro, which is a collection of two story bungalows. The bungalows consist of 8 suites (each with a porch or balcony) and are very clean with luxurious marble bathrooms. The grounds in the resort are very well maintained and there are a large number of wild birds, including peacocks, roaming the grounds... great for photo ops. The beaches are very nice, and a number of shops are available both in the resort and right up the beach in a collection of vendor-owned huts. We ate breakfasts and lunches in the buffet restaurant, and our dinners were group functions, so I can't speak to the food in the "reservatio...Read More

The rooms were very nice. We had a first floor unit with a small patio outside. The rooms were split level... the beds were on one level and a fews steps lead down to a sitting area (with a ROCK HARD sofa).

A sliding glass door led out to the patio, which conveniently had a folding drying rack for wet towels, bathing suits etc.

The buffet restaurant at the Iberostar Bavarro is a mixed bag. Some of the food was delicious (for breakfast you HAVE to try the fresh made donuts and pancakes) and some of it made me downright nervous (the VERY undercooked bacon). The restaurant is set up in stations, so you're sure to find something to your liking (presuming you enjoy semi-raw pork products). Seriously though, there is an extensive variety of foods available and pretty liberal hours. Get a seat by the railing and you can watch the absolutely gorgeous birds (including flamingos) strolling by while you eat. You'll occasionally see a fish jump too. Since this was part of our all inclusive package, I'm ...Read More

The beaches were very pretty in the DR. The first picture here is deceiving... the sky looks forboding but it's a photo-thing, not a weather thing. Note the little grass umbrellas all over the beach... very tropical!

As I mentioned earlier, there are wild birds walking everyone in the resort.

"Wild" might be an overstatement because although they are not caged, they really don't have much or any fear of people.

We often noticed the peacocks and peahens making themselves comfortable on the railing of a townhouse patio.

For the light sleepers out there, be advised that there ARE some roosters on the grounds, doing what roosters do at the first sign of sun!

One very nice aspect of this resort is the impeccably maintained grounds.

The villas are connected by cobblestone paths, surrounded by flora and fauna. At night, the paths could be a little better lit, but they are very nice for a relaxing stroll after dinner.

Please pay attention when walking at night, however, because there aren't a lot of signs and it's easy to lose your sense of direction in this very large resort.
