Hyatt Regency La Jolla at AventineBest of IgoUgo

Hotel | "Hyatt Regency"

The Hyatt Regency in La Jolla has it's shares of pros and cons. The price is decent, around $225 a night. The location is not the best—it is off the I-5 freeway, close to University Towne Center, and about 10 minutes from the shopping and the views that La Jolla is famous for. It is a great location for the business traveler.

As you drive up to the hotel, it is beautiful. The lobby is nice, but not overly stuffy. The staff at this hotel is amazing! The decor is soft contemporary. Our room was decorated with shades of blue and brown. The first 5 nights, we stayed in a corner king room. There was tons of space and it was great for a long week. The last night we moved to a double room (we had family join us for one night). The double room was an interior room, and was a little small.

The condition of the hotel is great. Everything is well kept and nice. Parking is in an underground garage, if you self-park the price is $16 a night.

The Sporting Club is available for hotel guests for $12 a day. It is an amazing health club that should satisfy the needs of anyone. The spa in the health club is very nice and well maintained.

Again the service was amazing, the atmosphere was great, and the hotel itself was beautiful. If you want to be in the middle of the shopping, beaches, etc., this is not the hotel for you. If you don't mind being a little further away, are a business traveler, or want easy access to the freeway, then this is the hotel for you.

This was our anniversary dinner. Instead of eating in the restaurant (which is a bit stuffy), my husband made reservations for the rooftop called the Ocean Terrace Bistro. It was a little more casual but still had great food.

We ate steak and chicken—both were great. We each had drinks that were wonderful. The service was amazing. The best part of the place—the view.

You should make reservations—and you can do it online at their web site as well as review their entire menu.

Attraction

Birch Statue
As you walk up to the aquarium, you are greeted by a wonderful statue of a whale. I arrived just in time to see the feeding of the sharks.

This is a true aquarium with several displays of California ocean life. The exhibits are beautifully done.

Outside there is a tide pool with ocean life and great views of La Jolla. There is also a children's exhibit that I enjoyed (and I am well past being a child!). There were simulation activities available that I did not do.

This was a great place to take kids that is fun and educational. As an adult, I enjoyed it, and it was a great way to spend a couple of hours.
