Overview

Tons and tons of shells
Sanibel is best know for its shell hunting. The beach is covered in shells. Instead of sand, it is shells, shells, shells as far as you can see. Sanibel is set off the coast of Ft. Myers and is gorgeous with its blue waters and shell beaches. Sanibel is also well known for fishing. The island is filled with stuff to do and tons to see. Since the island is not very big, it is not hard to make it all the way around it. However, the best thing to see and do at Sanibel is to look for shells. You can dig and dig and dig and still find only shells and no sand. You are sure to come home with some amazing shells and souvenirs The shells are the best and most abundant right after a storm, and if you know Florida, that can be pretty often. Sanibel has a beautiful and enjoyable culture. The people are friendly, and there is a ton of things to see and do. For example, there is a lighthouse out on the island you can tour. You can lie out, fish, look for shells, or even take a swim on the huge waves that roll in.

Quick Tips:

Wear shoes when hunting for shells. They hurt, and remember, there is not much sand. Watch for sharks if you are fishing, as I hear they can be unfriendly. Enjoy the quite little island and do whatever you want.

Best Way To Get Around:

By car is fine. I think you can actually get around by bike, but car gets the job done.
