Experience with Edison Walthall Hotel in Jackson

Well, I can't believe all of the good reviews given to this hotel. It would be useful to know how old they were. My experience from January of 2006 was quite the opposite. I am trying to post this review to as many sites as I find. If I knew more about the hotel, I would never have stayed there.

I decided to stay at this hotel since it was the most convenient in terms of location.

When I first checked in, I was given a room that was terrible. Basically, something I would expect if I stayed in a motel. The entrance to the room was from the outside (like a motel), which was strange. The carpet and the linens on the bed were quite worn down, and the whole room seemed to be in pretty bad shape. I went back down and complained, so they upgraded me to a suite. The suite was huge, but not necessarily in much better in quality. But, I thought at least they were trying.

Later on, I found that the shower did not drain in the bathroom. I tried to get them to fix it (and was up until 1:00am waiting for it to get fixed), but they did not have anyone to fix the shower. Although, pouring some Drano would probably have probably have done the trick. The next morning, I had to get quite creative to take a shower without standing in dirty water.

I complained to the manager, and his simple reply was "sorry about that"—no attempt to make up for the problems.

Later on, I found out that, basically, the hotel has been swamped with Katrina evacuees and rescue workers. Given that the hotel has been full, they have had no reason to maintain anything at the hotel—they have good occupancy rates anyway. The person I talked to said they were waiting for all the evacuees to leave before doing a renovation of the hotel.

All in all, a horrible experience. If the rooms were $29.99, I would say, you get what you pay for. But, for $99.00 a night, I certainly did not get what I paid for. Needless to say, I will never, ever, go back to this hotel.
