The Enduring City

An August 1998 trip to Dresden by camera-gal

Dresden has recreated its historic past since its bombing in World War II.

With so much wonderful art, I found it hard to pass up Dresden since I was staying only an hour and a half away. My two tour guides, a mother and her daughter, wanted to show me the Hygene Museum which is rather interesting. It's like a roadside attraction so prevalent in America. Not that it is along the highway, but because the artifacts are so unusual.

Altegemeister -- Priceless paintings by famous artists hang within the walls of this colossal building.

Zwinger -- Beautiful architecture, wonderful fountains, great lawns

Frauenkirche -- Destroyed during the war, but now being rebuilt.

Shopping -- Great bargains. I got a dress for .50!

McDonald's -- Interesting crowd.

Quick Tips:

I suggest visiting Dresden for maybe one or two days. If you're staying somewhere close or passing through, Dresden is a must.

Best Way To Get Around:

If you stay in downtown Dresden, or plan on just visiting sites that are downtown, walking is the best. I was able to walk from the Alltegemeister to the University to the Hygene museum.
