Iguassu Falls - majestic!

A January 2001 trip to Foz Do Iguacu by DJHerm

Quote: A visit to Iguassu Falls - experiencing the majestic beauty of this natural wonder of the world - is a great way to end a South American travel adventure.

Iguassu Falls - majestic!

Overview

Quote:
Taking the double-decker bus tour of the national park gets you to a well maintained walkway taking you right to the falls. You will get wet from the mist and will be confronted by curious (and too well fed) anteaters. Bring your panoramic film!

Quick Tips:

Fine hotel accommodations abound. Don't feel you have to pay top dollar to get a hotel room in the national park. Other hotels along the highway to the falls and in the city itself offer fine accomodations at reasonable price with ready access to everything.

Best Way To Get Around:

Use the local bus system. Take it from the airport, to your hotel, to the falls, and even into Paraguay and Argentina.

This modern hotel, located about half-way between the city and the falls, had all the amenities one needs for basic travel, including restaurant for free breakfast. An outdoor pool, courts and pool table area are available. Professional staff and great service. Very comfortable.

Huge crowds from Brazil and Argentina flock to this shopping area for the great deals. A lot of Arab and Oriental merchants hawk their items from streetside markets and several mid-scale shopping centers offer a more relaxed experience. Cross the Parana River and Spanish is the language. The world comes into perspective when you're rapping with a Korean shop keeper in Spanish who wants to teach her children English so they can go to university in California.

Itaipu Binacional

Attraction

Another structure billed as one of the seven wonders of the modern world, this massive hydro-electric dam and facility actually has a good argument for that! This is an exciting stop if you're in awe of the power of modern technology over nature (whether right or wrong), and it's a must see if you're a professional engineer. You also get a good view of the dam from departing aircraft.

Lake Itaipu

Attraction

Quote:
The lake is nice retreat for locals and tourists alike offering a South American reservoir beach setting and fishing opportunities. Enjoyable if you want to relax in an international beach setting - but do it in the morning before the afternoon rains (during the rainy season).
