Due to stormy weather in the northeast, our travel plans were delayed a day. However, it was well worth the wait! We arrived at an impressive looking airport with thatched roofs. The feel of the tropics, after stepping off the plane, was a delightful diversion from the frigid weather we left behind. Getting through the airport was relatively quick and painless, as we soon found someone from VIP services to transport us to our hotel/resort. We were driven through poor rural areas, which I find is part of the charm of being someplace other than home. The locals are hard working people who appreciate the tourist.
