Carmel, CA. I have always wanted to visit this place, whether it be talks at cocktails parties or general small talks, I guess it also helps I'm only an hour drive away from it. This place is a rarity in offering many activities from beach going to night life, shopping and rich history (museum and mission homes). It's best to not have any expectation of this place, rather a quiet curiosity and a longing for a retreat. Overall the people are quite generous, and the first thing you notice is how the downtown is nestled into a thriving community of homes and hotels. By far, a unique place to retreat to and unwind, or just go crazy shopping! Carmel's downtown is like no other, small unique st...Read More

Little Napoli

Restaurant

Upon a friendly recommendation, we had a luncheon at Little Napoli, and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The ambience had a warm and welcoming feel to it, and this was a quintessential romantic outing in a modern American-Italian restaurant. It also helps to note that background music was provided by none other than Bocelli. I had the salmon pasta dish and was thrilled to find that the pasta was a fine compliment to the salmon, and the service was expedient. The wine selection includes French, Italian, and other European wines, from places like Spain and Portugal. The portion size of the food was generous, and the menu advertised a 100-year-old recipe for bread. I have nothing...Read More

This is a place where pets are as abundant as people, relatively quiet, and pet friendly. It is a nice place to relax and take a quick nap, there also many vintages points to enjoy the sunset.

The golf course is above the beach, and together with the views, the atmosphere is quite pleasant. The best way to get here is to walk down from downtown (no pun intended), and follow the ocean street.

Carmel Mission

Attraction | "Carmel Mission Basilica"

Quote:
This is one of the many historical Mission Homes along the coast of California and Mexico. Established in 1771, it is a national shrine of Junipero Serra. Very rich in the presentation of attires of Popes, and a fine detail. The normal day-to-day walk through tour goes from library to kitchen. All areas, with the exception of underground cellar, are accessible. Weekly masses still occur on Saturday night and Sundays, so plan ahead to either attend mass or else visit around it. Although payment is not required, a gratuity of $5 to $10 is accepted, as a very informative self-guided tour can be performed by strolling through the museum and shrine. B...Read More

Cottage of Sweets

Attraction

If you are a lover of fine chocolate and or caramel, this place is a MUST VISIT! It is a very tiny candy shop in comparison to any See's or other candy shops, but don't let this fool you, it more than makes up for it in taste and history. Originally built in 1922, it was moved once down the hill. The store, however, did not open until late 1959. They mostly have British and American sweets, ranging from various types of licorices and fudge. You can purchase gift sets of 5 to 10 pieces for about $17, or choose from a variety of freshly made chocolates bars and individual pieces. By the way, be sure to read the signs while in the store... you will be amused.Regrettably, we wish we had...Read More

The drive

Story/Tip

Quote:
Highway 17 and Highway 1 are by far two of my favorites, I enjoy the drive down highway 17 due to the challenge and the thrill of driving my car there, and Highway 1 for the scenic views. Traveling any time during the weekend to Carmel or the South Bay requires starting trip early in the morning no later than 10am. Traffic can get rough down Highway 17, and try to avoid the drive down during the rainy seasons as this is a real concern for landslides and mudslides. Since Highway 17 only has two lanes, one can imagine how tough the drive will get. Be sure to stop by, if time permits, for fresh fruits around the inner citys during the drive. Cherries, oranges, and apples are freshly picke...Read More
