Grant's Farm is a great attraction in St. Louis that offers a little bit of history with enough excitement to entertain the kids. Admission to the park is free, but you do have to pay $8 to park. Upon entering the park, you board a tram that takes you on a slow journey through an open field, where you will witness animals, such as deer, bison, and buffalo, in their normal habitat. You will also pass a cabin that Ulysses S. Grant took part in building himself while being told some great history lessons.
About halfway through the ride, the tram will let you off at what is called Tier Garten. While in the Tier Garten, kids will have the chance to feed some billy goats with bottles. Moms go in with the little ones because the goats can get aggressive when they see those bottles. They have a variety of animals to see and offer a couple of fun, educational shows on different animals, including Bud and Mickey in the elephant education show. Once you get to the bottom of the Tier Garten, you will be in a food court and beer sampling area, where you will wait to board the tram again to head back.
Make sure not to miss one of the best parts of this attraction. Across the farm, by the parking lot, are stables where they house some of the actual Clydesdales. They also have old carriages and bits of history along the way. You will be able to see some "retired" clydesdales, and for those of you who haven't seen these guys up close, this will be a treat. They are huge and beautiful.
