A January 2006 trip to Myrtle Beach by MargieC

Gold Crown all the way. It's really nice to visit the beach in winter time. Not a lot of things open, but enough to keep you occupied for a week. We will have to go back just to finish what we left off.

Best Things Nearby:
Great restaurants, Tanger outlet mall,The Beach.

Best Things About the Resort:
Service is excellent at this resort. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Very nice accomodations.

Resort Experience:
We had a 2 bedroom for just the two of us, we like to stretch out. Villa was very clean and the furnisher was comfortable too. No recliner but the beds made up for that. This resort is noted for their beds called Dream Sleepers. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you will need. Hairdryers are furnished in both bathrooms. The Jacuzzi was big enough for two (that would be about 350lb of flab put together). We really like to participate in the activities at the resorts we stay at. This resort had bingo, aqua aerobics, cards, but all of the activities were put on by exchange students age 18-23. Not familiar with any of the activities they are performing, especially the water aerobics. Very unorganized. By the third day no one even showed up to participate. Being disappointed we went shopping, that was fun. Everything about this resort is Gold Crown, except the activities, they are awful. Sometimes accommodations aren't all you go on vacation for.

Restaurant | "Liberty Steakhouse and Brewery"

This is a very good restaurant for steaks, best I have eaten in awhile. Cooked to perfection and tender. I had a 20 oz. prime rib med rare about 1x1x2inche thick. My husband had the 20 oz. porterhouse. He only let me have one bite of that, and it was very good. They make their own beer there. I don't drink much beer, but I ended up drinking my husbands whole glass (light beer). A nice salad and garlic mashed potatoes come with your meal for $20. The best thing! The month of January they have a buy one entree get one freE special on Mondays and Wednesdays. Our bill was $32.00 including drinks. If you can't go in January go anyway and pay full price it is worth every bite. Besides we took ours home and had steak and eggs for breakfast two mornings. And we're big eaters.

Attraction

The Sheraton invited us to their preview center. No sales pressure at all. Anyway they gave us 2 tickets for $20. This show is so good, even if you don't want to go to the preview, it would be worth paying full price. The dancing, singing, and overall performance was excellent. Everyone that performs has been there for 20 years. Good family show with comedians, gospel singing, American tribute. Can't wait to go back. They change the show often.

I have been on a gambling cruise before. This one is the best. Only about 20 miles from the resort and they have a shuttle bus to take you free of charge. Actually the whole trip was free. They give you a free buffet, which was very good, chicken, baked fish, salad, bread, muffins, fresh fruit, yogurt, juices, coke, etc. When you buy your tokens it costs $20 and they give you $45. So if you wanted you could just play with their $25. I'm not a big gambler so the $45 worked out great for me. I figure I had $20 worth of fun. Actually I won $10. There was two guys playing the guitar and singing the whole trip. As long as you are gambling they serve you mixed drinks. We really had a good time and met some fun people. My husband has a hard time walking any long distance, the crew was nice enough to take him down the ramp in a wheelchair, that they provided. If it wasn't for that I don't know if he would have made it, without being to tired to enjoy his trip.

Tanger OutletBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

This is a huge outlet. We were there at least 5 hours, and only got to one side of it. I guess we will have to go back just to finish shopping. The Jeff Foxworthy store was fun to visit, I have never seen one before, but I know about rednecks. Haggar store for men was a big hit. Nice long-sleeve fuzzy pullovers for $7.95, sweaters $10. I can't remember the name of the store, but they had name brand bathing suits $10. All shoes $5. I didn't buy anything in there, it kind of makes me depressed to try on bathing suits right now, maybe next time. If you go into the SAS shoe store you can have popcorn and a bottled coke for 25 cents, while they measure your foot.
