Adoption Trip '02

A September 2002 trip to Changsha by ChinaMommy

Changsha, China, is a busy metropolis with one hand reaching forward and one hand reaching into its past. Home of the famous Hunan Embroidery Factory, where they create intricate double-sided embroidery by hand, to the YuLan School, where Confucius once taught and Chairman Mao once was a student.

Yulan School, Hunan Embroidery Factory, and Orange Island (awesome oranges). The shopping was extraordinary!

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way to get around is with a guided taxi. Traffic in China in general is not for the faint-of-heart.

Hotel

We had very elegant five-star accommodations. The staff was very friendly, especially the wait staff in the morning with the babies. The rooms were very nice, but don't expect super-comfy beds. The Chinese like extra-firm beds, and I mean no bounce. The restaurant was very good. The shops in the basement were very nice, with good deals on everything, from souvenirs to clothing and high-end diamonds.

Attraction

It was very loud and smokey! The Chinese people work and play hard! They don't start socializing till around 7pm and close down the clubs at 3am.
