Quote: Steamboat Springs, CO, is a place we visit often. We've snowmobiled at Rabbit Ears Pass. We've played in their volleyball tournament the past three summers. Of all the places we’ve been in Colorado, now that we’ve finally skied here we have even more reason to like it.

The Sheraton had a fabulous property at the base of Mount Werner in Steamboat Springs. We arrived a bit early, around 3:30pm. Our room wasn’t ready until 4pm. They had Christmas cookies at the front desk. We did have a problem getting our luggage. The bell hop was supposed to have it in the room when it was ready, but it wasn’t there. Despite two phone calls to the front desk, after an hour we still didn’t have it. We had to go down and get it. That was our only mishap. Our plan was to spend one day skiing and one day snowmobiling, however, while waiting for our room, we went to the ski shop to rent skis and discovered the lift was outside the back door. My husband took one look and said, ...Read More

Slopeside’s slogan is, "Skiing is cold and expensive, lunch and dinner shouldn’t be." The most popular place on the mountain, Slopeside was constantly packed at all hours of the day. It was tough to get a table unless you were diligent. Because of the sunshine, the patio was open, which was great because dogs are allowed on the patio. They even had Purina on the menu. They also have racks next to the restaurant to hold your skis while you dine. We were waiting for a patio table when we noticed a table for four had only two people sitting at it. We asked if we could join them and it turned out to be a couple I met, ran into actually, out on the slopes. Now here they were, letting us share their tabl...Read More

Tugboat

Restaurant

Better known as a bar, the Tugboat was also a great restaurant and the only place on the mountain with a Foosball table. That was why we chose to dine there Christmas Eve. From the outside, the Tugboat was part of a strip mall and blended right in with the surrounding gift shops. The inside of the place was as far from a fancy ski resort as you can get, with rustic old wood walls and bar, and photos of people on the wall that were so old that no one knew who they were anymore... except for the concert poster advertising Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band from 1977 (sweet). The Foosball table was about the same age. We didn’t mind, because it still worked. The food was fantastic, not w...Read More

Since this was only my second time on skis, Steamboat was a good place to relearn. It has plenty of green, blue, and black hills for any type of skier. There was one slope with moguls and another slope with snowboarding… stuff. It looked like a skateboard park with pipes and jumps; sorry, I know nothing about snowboarding, but many people who do enjoyed it below us on the lift. Every lift operator was friendly. Considering they had to put up with ski idiots like myself all day, I couldn’t believe how jovial they were. Every one of them had a sincere hello, even at the end of the day. Since it was Christmas weekend, the slopes were crowded, but not overwhelming. Steamboat was a family friendly resort a...Read More
