Punta Arenas is the main city you fly into to get to Parque Torres del Paine (the place most people trek to in the Chilean Patagonia). We had about 6 hours in the city before our plane would take us back to Santiago. Some of our friends hired a car to drive to the Otway Colony, about 45 minutes away, where the penguins are. But we decided to stay in Punta Arenas.The main square, in the middle of the city, had some street vendors selling a variety of crafts, jewelry, and other souvenirs. I'm not sure if this should be called a hotel. It's more like a hostel, although a few rooms have a private bath. We paid only CLP 6,000 per person, which included a very nice (though simple) breakfast.From the outside, the hotel looks like it's unfinished, and the siding is currently being replaced (I think). But the rooms are very cozy and clean. The shared bathrooms on the second floor aren't beautiful, but they have warm water and aren't scary-looking (unlike some other places we've stayed).But really, the reason to stay at Hain Hotel is because of Lilian.
