Though sandwiched in the very middle of the Philippine Islands in Central Visayas, one foreign writer said that Dumaguete has just a lot of un-Philippine characteristics. It is a tranquil and clean place, best for those who are not in a hurry and just want to while away time in a rustic yet modern ambience. There are just plenty of things to do and see in Dumaguete. You can dive, watch dolphins, go to the mountains or beach resorts, or just while away time in the city's many night spots or hangouts. Interacting with its friendly and gentle people is also a pleasure.

Quick Tips:

History and culture is very much alive in Dumaguete. You can see it in its old buildings, museum at Silliman Hall, and even in its century-old acacia trees. Research centers and areas for educational enrichment also abound. There are many restaurants and night spots, especially along Dumaguete's seaside boulevard. There are dive shops around, and its market is one of the nicest and cleanest in the Philippines. The latter is where you can find bargains for souvenir items.

Best Way To Get Around:

There are taxis, cars, and vans-for-hire, but the primary mode of transportation is three-wheeled motorcabs. Most people prefer to walk along its tree-lined, clean, and peaceful streets.

The atmosphere is perfect for casual or formal occasions. The place is perfect for get-togethers and family outings but is also good for a couple. It has an excellent ambience and good food.

Attraction | "Night Out"

There are numerous night spots along the Dumaguete Boulevard. There are disco houses, bars, karaoke places, fine-dining restaurants, etc. The atmosphere is relaxing, but it is very lively in disco houses, karaoke places, and bars. There are usually live bands towards the weekend.
