Resort Experience:
We recently visited the DIVI Village in Aruba through the RCI program. We were very unhappy with the resort and there lackluster response to the break in our unit. We were staying in a ground floor unit in the new section of the resort where there was a lot of construction going on. The construction workers hung out right outside our door. We came back one evening to discover our unit had been broken into, and the wall safe had been prided off the wall. We had kept our valuable in the wall safe as instructed by the resort staff. This was not a random robbery. Earlier in the day, a construction worker had been in our room under the pretense that he was servicing our air-conditioning unit. The hotel management was apologetic, but basically said that crime in the Caribbean is a fact of life, and they could do nothing about it, and that they were not responsible. They quickly referred us to their legal department at the main office in North Carolina, which disavowed any responsibility. There was never any offer of compensation of any kind. We on the other hand believe that a resort is responsible for maintaining the safety of their property, and that they are liable. We have reported them to the Better Business Bureau. When I called the main RCI number the representative suggest I e-mail my complaint to this e-mail address. We believe the resort put us in a compromising position and did not provide adequate safety precautions. I would like it to be noted to other RCI members who might be thinking about staying at the resort. If there is anything RCI could do to help us in getting DIVI to live up to it’s responsibilities it would be much appreciative. Thank you, Whitney Petrilli and Rory Mulvey
