Day Trip in Morocco

An October 2004 trip to Tangier by zcat19892000

Morocco was a wonderful trip to the out-of-the-ordinary. It had such a different feel. It was amazing!

Morocco was a wonderful place to visit. I have always wanted to go to Africa. So far, this day trip is as close as I've gotten. I was going down the streets feeling as though I had been submerged in Agrabah from the story of Aladdin. The shapes of the buildings, the windows, the doors, EVERYthing gave you the feel of something completely different. As you are walking down the street, you will be hounded by people to buy their wares, which, by the way, are amazing. The whole trip, in total, was magnificent, and I would NEVER regret going there.

Quick Tips:

My suggestion is that if you are not interested in the people selling their wares, DO NOT give them the time of day. If you begin something, you MUST finish it by buying something. And, know that if you do this, it is like a shark smelling blood in the water, and you will be instantly surrounded by more. So, my remedy for this is to say NO and then move into a local market where they will not dare enter!

Best Way To Get Around:

I went with a group and definitely recommend that for anyone traveling there. I must be quite honest with all of you; however beautiful this place might be, there are dangers there and it is better faced with a person who knows the area and other people in the same predicament.

In the background there were men blowing on exotic instruments, giving the ambience a wonderfully authentic feel. The restaurant, I thought, was loud, but not in a bad way. It gave off the feeling of friendliness, a family sort of feeling. There was laughing and oooing and aaaing at the wonderful cuisine. At the end I was a bit disappointed when the waiter was rude when I asked for him not to take a Coke bottle that had Arabic letters on it because I was going to keep it. He at first acted like I was crazy, then said, "Well, you will have to pay me." I said, "I don't think so. I payed for this Coke. I am NOT paying to keep the bottle it was brought in." I guess he mistook me for a "dumb tourist." Don't fall for any subtle little traps like that. All in all, though, it's a must-see when in Morocco.

Attraction

There were so many local markets, and any of them are amazing to visit. Even if you don't get to the local markets, you are hounded by people to buy their wares. I ended up leaving there with sooo may things, and I was only there for one day! The markets are a MUST!!!

A Local Market
Tangier, Morocco

I had the most wonderful time here. To me, the most memorable moments were just walking through the streets of this lovely city, looking around at all the local faces, the buildings, the clothes they wore. Everything was just amazing! And I would recommend it for any adventurous or not-so-adventurous soul out there.
