A Wonderful Week in Colorado!

A September 2005 trip to Glenwood Springs by TravelNeedy

This is in a very convenient location, close to almost everything. The staff was most helpful and the rooms were comfortable, as were the beds. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone who wishes to be close to it all. A free bus comes by every 15 to 20 minutes to give you a ride.

I walk a lot for my health, but this was a hike I definitely didn't ever think I would do! The hike to Hanging Lake starts out as just that, a normal-looking "hike." However, the way up is a trail of huge rocks, uh, BOULDERS. I finally decided that I needed a walking stick. I noticed that most people had ski poles, and those seemed to work better. The view all the way up was breathtaking!! There were beautiful waterfalls, lots of wild animals, and out-of-the-ordinary (for me) trees and plant life. The hike itself must have been 2 miles up that boulder trail! It is definitely for the fit person, NOT the weak or ill. When you finally get to the top, the first thing you hear is water falling. Hot Springs Lodge & Pool

Talking about "relaxing", I didn't want to leave the biggest hot tub in the world! The Hot Springs Spa was within walking distance of our suite, and I was happy as a lark! I was told the water stays warm, even in winter! It bubbles up into a huge pool, with many beneficial minerals that make your skin feel sooo smooth, and the warmth of the "miracle" water is so very relaxing, I wanted to turn into a mermaid and just live there! It was hard to get me out once I got in. This would be highly recommended for persons with aching joints, like me, after all the walking and hiking! Or those with arthritis would definitely enjoy this spa. They have massage chairs in the pool to sit in and ...Read More

Thinking I must be crazy, I was finally convinced to raft the Colorado River with family. What an adventure that was!!! The rapids were really rough in places but rather smooth in others. When I saw children doing the same thing and really enjoying it, I convinced myself that I probably wouldn't drown after all. I am SOOOO glad I did it. There is nothing more exciting than the thrill you get when you get over the rough rapids and find that you made it! We had a wonderful guide, and he told us many stories about the river. I would definitely go again, after a couple nerve pills, just kidding. It was really an exciting adventure for me, especially since I had never done such a thing in my adul...Read More
