Seeing the sites in Cape May

Overview

Quote:
We started our trip to Cape May on Labor Day after a family picnic. We got there in record time I think we were the only car going to the shore. The traffic leaving was another story, bumper to bumper for miles!! There is so much to see and do at the shore go to the beach, the Cape May Zoo, see the Lighthouse and the Concrete Ship The Atlantus. The Lighthouse and the concrete ship are right down the road from each other so if you go to one stop by and visit the other.

Quick Tips:

Don't forget your camera and the sunscreen!

Best Way To Get Around:

You need a car to get to all the attractions that we visited. Once you're there walking is the best way to get around.

Cape May Beach

Attraction

Quote:
You will need to buy a beach tag to go on the beach. It costs $4 a day, $11 a week, $8 for a three day pass or $17 for the season. The beach is kept clean and it's not far to walk to the ocean.

If you're into surfing you can surf on Colonial and Jefferson Beach.

Cape May Zoo

They have most of the popular animals like lions, tigers and bears, monkeys and giraffes. The only animals they don't have that we all missed were Elephants and apes. My son was looking forward to seeing Apes and they only had small monkeys. Outside the zoo is a park with a pond and playground. It's perfect if you pack a lunch to have a picnic. There is a snack bar which sells pretty good food right outside the entrance to the Zoo, there is a covered pavillion with tables and chairs. For your kids you can order a childrens menu from a Cheeseburger and French Fries to Chicken Fingers with French Fries and it comes in a plastic bucket with a handle with zoo animals on it, perf...Read More

The lighthouse on a clear day has a great view so bring a camera or binoculars. You can go on a self guided tour up the 218 steps to the top. The lighthouse is 157 feet tall and is open all year round.

It's hard to believe that this ship did float. As the story goes...June 8th, 1926 it broke free from its mooring in a storm and went aground to where it sits today. It really doesn't look like much, but there's a nice beach where you can look for "diamonds" in the sand. There is also a nice gift shop that sells everything from nautical items to postcards and has a snack bar on the beach.

This is one of the best ways to tour around Cape May. See the Victorian homes at you own pace, go shopping, ride around town or take a nice ride out to the lighthouse and Cape May Point. At the point you can lay on the beach and see the Concrete ship Atlantus. They have all size bikes for the family, even trailers for the little ones. For the small children they can attach a tandem bike to your bike and you can ride together. They rent Surreys which like to me like an antique car with a roof and a steering wheel. Also, for someone who don't want to pedal the entire time they have an E-bike which looks like a regular bike but it has a motor attached! They rent by th...Read More
