Diamond in the Rough

A December 2005 trip to Big Sky by akwilson

We recently visited Big Sky, Montana, and although the West may be wild, we discovered a fabulous diamond in the rough, The Rainbow Ranch Lodge and Restaurant.

We were looking for a cozy mountain getaway for the holidays, and the Rainbow Ranch fit Lodge the bill perfectly! There were fresh-baked cookies waiting for us in our room upon arrival as well as a river rock fireplace with real firewood and wonderful views of the Gallatin River and the adjacent wilderness area covered in a blanket of snow. The room felt like a cozy little cabin with the "lodgepole" bed, down comforter, and Western charm. The amenities were also excellent, such as the rosemary-lavender bath salts. And the lodge's staff, from the front desk to the housekeepers, were all attentive and friendly. I look forward to our next visit.

Restaurant

The food, wine, and service were incredible. The menu was on par with restaurants in big cities across the globe and the wine list was extensive to say the least, with 600-plus selections. The overall atmosphere was wonderfully rustic, yet elegant and cozy, with antler chandeliers, beautiful wood floors, and a fireplace in the lounge. I would recommend it to anyone travelling to Montana!
