Prestigious Lake Oswego

A travel journal to Lake Oswego by Christina A. Parsons

Some will laugh at my title. Prestigious Lake Oswego. For Portlandians, it's a joke said tongue in cheek. Sure, this is a beautiful resort town, but prestigious? Come with me and decide for yourself...

Enjoy grub at the Ram in downtown Lake Oswego. Visit the waterfront of Lake Oswego (situated both on a lake and the Willamette River). Take the Willamette Shore Trolley into Portland's River Place area.

Quick Tips:

Dress warm and waterproof!

Best Way To Get Around:

You will want to have your own vehicle in Lake Oswego. It is too spread out to walk all over and cabs are not prevalent, and tend to be rather costly.

Crowne Plaza Lake OswegoBest of IgoUgo

Hotel | "Crowne Plaza"

Crowne Plaza hotels are quite comfortable and luxurious in general terms. The one in Lake Oswego is no different. I stayed at this hotel prior to moving here, as I was on a job interview. The rooms are spacious and clean and have all the amenities you want - a mini bar, hairdryer, t.v., movie rentals and a large bathroom. The hotel itself, has plenty of large meeting rooms, a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner and a lounge so that you can wind down.

Hotel | "Phoenix Inn"

Phoenix Inns tend to be upper class motor inns. They are affordable and comfortable, but if you are looking for lots of amenities and five-star service, you don''t want to consider it. There is no restaurant on site (although there are several within short walking distance), or is there anything else on site.

The Shore Trolley dates back to the 1800s and is an original car recently refurbished. The car runs seasonally along train tracks leading you into the River Place area of Portland. If you want to spend a day in downtown Portland, do be sure to take the trolley. It is cheap ($4 RT), fun and has several convenient stopping times. All along the route, you see the multi-million dollar homes that supposedly give Lake O or LO as locals call it, its prestigious status. The prestige title is derived from the amount of money sitting in such a small area per capita. You also align the Willamette River on the route and get to experience the splendor of 7 miles of no traffic.
