A week at Massanutten

Resort Experience:
The Woodstone Meadows units we stayed in at Massanutten have two bedrooms and a full kitchen downstairs and another two bedrooms and partial kitchen upstairs. On each level there is a king bed in one bedroom and two singles in the other. The sofa in the living rooms pulls out to sleep additional members of your party. The units are clean and very well appointed with relatively new furnishings and fittings. We were appreciative of the large oven and microwave as we cooked our own meals while we were there. All of the Woodstone Meadows units have views of the surrounding golf course with the mountains in the background. Massanutten is a large resort and from our unit it was about half a mile to the Woodstone recreation center, where there is a store, pool, gym, golf, tennis, and a range of other activities. The newly opened Water Park is about two miles away and skiing on Massanutten Mountain is a similar distance.

We were there in the first week of January and even though the temperatures were relatively warm, (mid 40s) and it hadn't snowed for some time there was a good cover of snow and all runs were open. There were no long lines and the slopes weren't crowded. Massanutten is best suited to beginners and intermediate skiers and we all had a great time. All runs at Massanutten are lit for night skiing and there is a choice of day, twilight, morning or afternoon lift tickets. Tickets range from $66 for the extended day on a weekend down to $26 on weeknights. Children, seniors and the military get lower rates as do owners. Equipment rental ranges from $43 to $19. The tubing park is a lot of fun and costs $18 per person for a two hour session. There are eight lanes and sessions run from 9am to 9pm. No skill is required and anyone over 36" can have a great time.

The Water Park is very new to Massanutten and so even though we had been to the resort several times before this was our first time at the water park. Most of the other water parks we have been to are outdoor and open only in summer. The day we went to Massanutten's it was cold and raining outside, but a very pleasant temperature indoors. There are change rooms and lockers and everyone is given a towel as they enter. There is a small pool for younger children with deckchairs nearby. The fort in the center is fun for kids of all ages as they get to splash and spray water over each other. We all tried staying on the board on the wave rider and racing each other on the various slides. There are four long slides for those who can cope with the long climb up the stairs and a number of smaller ones for the younger kids. The food outlet has a very large seating area and there is also a cafe and an amusement arcade with over 80 games of various types. For those that visit in summer there are also a number of outdoor rides and activities, but these weren't open for our January visit.
