Weekend in Vegas

Overview

The Las Vegas Strip Photo, Las Vegas, Nevada

Thanks to some creative planning and a lot of discounts, we were able to spend 3 nights in Las Vegas, play two rounds of golf, and do a little gambling for around a piece. If you are planning a trip to Vegas, definitely take advantage of all of the discounts that are available. Most hotels offer discount rates that can be located online. Registering for players clubs at several casinos also got us a free 2-night offer from The Wynn with minimal gambling.Quick Tips: Our trip to Vegas revolved around getting in multiple rounds of golf. As in many destinations, golf can get rather expensive. Las Vegas has several booking websites offering last-minute golf tee times. We were able to take ad...Read More

Hilton Garden Inn Las Vegas Strip South

The Hilton Garden Inn LV Strip South was a very comfortable hotel with nice accommodations. The hotel was typical for a Garden Inn and our room was fairly large and could easily accommodate four adults. The hotel offered a free shuttle to/from the airport, but it was not extremely time efficient. The hotel is actually located in close proximity to the airport, and a cab fare would be very reasonable. If you do choose to pick up an airport shuttle at the Las Vegas airport for most hotels, be sure you go to the level beneath the baggage claims. There is an escalator near the info desk and the shuttle area is Level Zero. If you aren't determined to spend your nights in Vegas immediately on...Read More

Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower

The Stratosphere was selected as one of our hotels for its relatively low-priced accommodations. Given its location on the very north end of the Strip, the Stratosphere tends to have fairly low room prices for a newer hotel. To our surprise, we liked the accommodations at the Stratosphere more than the MGM Grand. Despite its distance from most of the Strip attractions, a quick trip by cab or monorail has you nearly anywhere you'd like to be. The Stratosphere is also very well laid out from a hotel and casino standpoint. The layout was very easy to follow and much friendlier than the massive expanses of some of the other large hotels. Our room was quite comfortable but unfortunately didn't offer much o...Read More

MGM Grand

The MGM Grand was our final hotel during our weekend in Vegas. Thanks to a discount room offer, we were able to spend a night at the hotel for roughly $70. With that offer available to us, we took advantage of the opportunity to see what the hotel was really like. Though the hotel is nice, it is extremely large and over-the-top. The biggest benefit is being at the south end of the Strip and quite close to a lot of the Las Vegas action. The hotel itself has a lot to see and do, but that doesn't justify the $300+ price category on many nights. The room itself was comfortable but nothing above and beyond an average hotel room. Our view was from the back of the hotel, so we saw nothing more than...Read More

Painted Desert Golf Club

Painted Desert is a great golf course with fantastic scenery. This course is challenging but very playable for most levels of golfers. The course was in good shape considering it was the dry season and was being closed the following week after our round in order to reseed. The fairways were a little dry and the rough consisted of extremely hard desert, but the greens were in perfect condition. Our round, played on a Sunday, cost us roughly $40, including range balls and carts. Normal rates are higher, but we took advantage of the last-minute rates found on Tee Times America, as mentioned in the trip overview. The clubhouse at Painted Desert was comfortable and had good food and drinks at reasonab...Read More
