December 2004 Trip to Oahu

A December 2004 trip to Oahu by justmejenna

My sister and I took a 10-day trip to paradise. We enjoyed many different things Oahu has to offer.

There are so many things to do in Oahu. If you love to shop, they have it. If you love to soak up the sand and the sun, they have it. If you love to eat, they have it, too. I don't think there is a single thing Hawaii doesn't have that you could possibly need.

Quick Tips:

Use the coupon books that you will find in all lobbies and on street corners. Shop ABC Stores and and buy large water vs. small ones. Even if you dump half out, it's still cheaper. Do not pass up a chance to save. You can do twice as much. Use the coupons. READ carefully. Take in all you can. There are many things that are free; you just have to read the booklets. Kodak Hula show is worth ten times the admission. Oh, it's free.

Best Way To Get Around:

Taking a taxi in Oahu is like playing with a loaded gun--SCARY. Buses seem to run on a well-timed schedule, and for the most part the drivers are very helpful and very friendly. Rent a moped or Jeep for next to nothing a day! And see more of the island. It's well worth it!! Get that camera ready!!
This hotel has almost nothing to offer but a low price. The pool, which is very small sits in the shade for nearly 90% of the day and offers glacier water to swim in. It was so cold only one toe made it in. There is very little parking, so if you plan to rent a car or moped, be prepared to park elsewhere, and even if your lucky to get a spot, be ready to pay. The rooms are in serious need of updating, and the bathrooms are very small. If your only using it for a place to sleep, it will do. This hotel is not near the action, except to hear the fights from the apartments next door. If you want day trips anywhere, you wont catch the shuttle here, they don't come to this hotel. Its not in a good location and is nestled midway on a one way road.

The breakfast buffet is well worth the cost. You have a choice of so many items, including a full fruit bar and an omelet bar. The food is delicious and the price is great. Service is A+ and well worth the wait, which can sometimes be up to an hour. This is located inside the Outrigger Hotel and is open to anyone. You can even get a patio seat when available. Very friendly and very good! Sit back, relax, and enjoy the food! When you're done, roll down to the beach and make a day of it!

Where else can you have dinner and a show? This is an awesome place for anyone at anytime. You will sit with many other people, so it's not a place to go for one-on-one time with a love.

Your meal, as well as everyone else's, is prepared right in front of you. You literally sit at the grill. The show the chef puts on while cooking your food is superior and entertaining!

This is a fun way to pass an hour or two and get to know other people who are visiting Hawaii, and maybe share some ideas on where to go next

The steak, lobster, shrimp, and chicken are sooo good, we went a few different times!

Music on the BeachBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

As the sun sets, you can see different artists along the beach singing Hawaiian songs and playing music. It's a very alive and fun atmosphere. You can hear different live music coming from each hotel's courtyard as you pass by as well. There are no words to describe the heaven that awaits you in Hawaii!

Attraction | "Pali Lookout (Nuuanu Pali)"

What is it like--VERY WINDY. The view is breathtaking and the photos you will take home will amaze you. After taking the uphill climb to get there, it is well worth it. You can see for miles and miles--it seems like it never ends. Watch out for the bees. They pretty much stay away from you, but they are there.

Coconut WilliesBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

Open-air/walled bar overlooking the International Marketplace and decorated in white lights, with a live band and dancing. Drink yourself a Backscratcher and enjoy the atmosphere. This place is an off-the-beaten-path place and well worth the climb up the stairs. There is a very friendly staff and great house band. I have been to Hawaii twice, and even after 10 years I made sure to make a stop again.

Live PerformersBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Live performers up and down the road"

As you walk the streets near the beach, you will see so many different performers, like men dressed as statues who you swear are statues, till they scare the fire out of you and move. There were many people playing music and making handmade items. Impersonators and the like flood both sides of the street. A small tip keeps the show going. This was so much fun to watch!

I have never seen a mall so huge! This mall offers soo many different shops, from name-brand to ones you've never heard of, from local to specialty. It's several levels high and would take many days to see it all. You can stop in the food court for a bite to eat or visit one of the many full-service restaurants inside. This open-air mall is awesome and a must-see for any shopper. There is loads of parking in the parking deck, and make sure you wear comfy shoes--it's a lot of walking!

Kodak Hula ShowBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

This was truly a wonderful time and the price, well you just cant beat it, free! You will have the chance to learn the hula as well if you like or just watch in awe. There are little ones, to elderly ones dancing to the hula. It was very fun to watch. And added to the experience of Hawaii.
