Quote: New London is about 30 miles outside of Hartford in the heard of New England. Th weather is cool and damp most of the year, with the most spectacular season being fall. The leaves become brilliant reds, oranges and yellows, looking sometimes like they are ablaze in the afternoon sun.

There aren't any tourist attractions in New London, but there is a beautiful lighthouse on the coast and a boardwalk where I think the movie Big, starring Tom Hanks, was filmed. The boardwalk is now fairly deserted, but looks like it was at one time as cool as Coney Island in New York State. If you like the look of gothic churches, you will want to drive into downtown New London where there are several to look at. A scenic drive down the coast also makes for a nice day in the New London area.Quick Tips: Dress warm regardless of the time of year. New London is full of history unique to this region of the United States. There are old, colonial style houses and buildings mixed with new, more modern facades. The people are friendly, but shy. The weather was cold when I was there; so not many were people were even out.

I took a scenic coastal drive and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The leaves were just starting to change while the weather got colder. Several lighthouses illuminate New England harbors. Here, I share my favorite one with you.

I visited this deserted boardwalk that bares an uncanny resemblance to the one in the Tom Hanks movie, Big. However, instead of there being gypsies and rides, there was nothing. The beach was deserted except for a few people throwing a frisbee to their dog and a group of teenagers just hanging out. In the parking lot nearby, there were a lot of pigeons hanging out - seems like there might have been a lot of food there... Some young boys were playing street hockey. The little amount of activity is what made it so nice - very peaceful.

The gothic churches in New England are just beautiful. The steeples stand high above any other local buildings, drawing attention to the architectural wonders. I was there on a Sunday morning and each church I drove past was packed! There is a strong Roman Catholic influence there.
