Clean and tidy—plenty of linen for a week, maid service everyday, change of sheets/towels, although they do advertise for water usage. They have evening service on the room also, which can be a plus for those with large parties, getting trash out prior to morning but mostly they turn down the bedding for moisture, nothing much worse than climbing into sheets that feel damp. Their idea of a balcony can be hard to appreciate, platform to wash sliding window is my view. If given the choice don't stay at the Palace, use either the Gran Mayan if you can book or the Sea Garden, first stated more luxurious, hustle crowd, busy, cold shoulder~get idea that persons staying cant be bothered with and believe this sheds over to the staff. while the Sea Garden is at end of the bus link ~it's still quieter than the other two, more quaint (cozy ), personable, friendly.

Mayan Best of IgoUgo

Hotel

Best Things Nearby:
The beach, although shorter than use to, it is still nice to have sand just a short jaunt from the room. Sunset/rises Wow'ers

Best Things About the Resort:
From grand to cozy the 3 Mayans offer it all, although if not staying in the grand not all is offered to all... the pool use is for Grand (only for Gran residents).

Resort Experience:
After you get past the hustle and congestion of the airport, you will find the traffic has out grown the roads, coming to age has its price, now have a 5 rush hr. that I would advise all to avoid. Weather: It couldn't have been more pleasant this time of year with one or two mild sprinkle days. Temperature was in 80's, mostly tolerant humidity. We found going from town to town as diverse as you would in the USA. Still have your tourist areas and the housing of less fortunate.

Restaurant | "Mayan "

Forget going to the resort restaurants, go out of the resorts area and you will find plenty of good places to eat for pesos. Ok, so you might need to have a strong stomach as some down home cooking "their way" can be heated up... fire roasted tonsils is a rare thing and even rarer would be to see health inspectors - they don't have. Remember most items have lime/lemon and salt. Everything comes with salsa, even a side dish of ice cream.....And again as the tourist books say not recommended, or be safe stay in resort...... gee now that's just real adventurist.

Canopy RidesBest of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

One visiting this area must take a plunge into the jungle entwined canopy rides (zip lines) 540 feet above the ground. There are at least two to choose from. Having vertigo didn't even stop this chix-little (reaching 50 years on this earth), would I do it again.... h#!@ no I'm certifiably crazy not insane would like to believe if I should live to be 80+ I wont be in wheelchair due to a silly stunt I did. But others couldn't get enough, and were wanting to keep going.

Try to befriend a local, really isn't hard, they will show you sites off the given tourist trails, not many left as more US citizens inhabit the areas but what you will see is so diverse from the resort area.
