Rushes

Hotel | "The Rushes"

Quote:
The Rushes is one of the finest timeshares we''ve ever stayed at. Each two-story unit is half of a duplex - you feel like you''re in your own home. They are beautifully furnished, spacious, and well maintained. The Lake front units open up to a large lawn that rolls down to the beach of Kangaroo lake where you can sail, canoe, wind surf, paddle boat or build a prize winning sandcastle. Kangaroo Lake is the perfect spot to learn to sail or just to spend a peaceful afternoon on the water. The rec center has an indoor pool, sauna, hot tub and game room.

Best Things Nearby:The resort itself! Beautiful Kangaroo Lake, the nature preserve. But if you must leave the Rushes you'll be delighted by Door County. Cave Point, with it's awesome limestone cliffs etched and shattered by Lake Michigan, is just down the road. Quaint historic villages dot the penisula. There are art galleries galore, tons of shops, Cana Island Lighthouse, Whitefish Dunes, hundreds of beaches on Lake Michigan and on Green Bay, fabulous restaurants, and Door County Fishboils. Live theater provided by the Peninsula players is always a treat. Door County is the best!Best Things About the Resort:One of the best things is the layout. The Rushes were d...Read More

Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant & Butik

Restaurant | "Al Johnson's Swedish Pancake House"

Quote:
Al Johnson's looks like a mountain chalet, complete with a sod roof and goats on top to keep it manicured. The menu offers traditional Swedish fare like Swedish meatballs, Swedish pancakes (delicious with lingonberries), along with american entrees. The throng of people waiting to get in attest to the quality of the food. Fortunately there is a gift shop to browse in while you wait for your turn to dine. You'll feel like you've been transported to Sweden!

Cave Point

Attraction

Quote:
Stunning. Cave Point is a wonderland of limestone cliff and outcroppings that are constantly challenged by the mighty waves of Lake Michigan. Usually the cliffs win - but occassionally, assisted by a storm or old man winter, the waves have claimed a victory. A crevasse here, a cascade of rock there, - all part of the beauty of this special place. As if to protect the cliffs and keep them a secret, Cave Point is cloaked in a cedar forest carpeted with wild flowers.

Large wooded campsites, some near the beach of Horseshoe Bay, make camping at Peninsula State Park an enjoyable, relaxing experience. The Park also houses an outdoor theater for evening entertainment. Hiking and biking trails crisscross the woods and fields. A Ranger Tower challenges you to climb to the top for a breathtaking view of the bay, and an 18 hole golf course is just inside the park's boundaries.

Cana Island Lighthouse & Museum

Attraction | "Cana Island Lighthouse"

Cana Island Lighthouse & Museum Photo, Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin
Quote:
Once a spot known only to the locals, Cana Island has become a major site for visitors. Getting there is still a bit of a challenge as the light house is on a small island accessible by a stone causeway, usually under water. Lake Michigan is COLD and the causeway is rocky, so I recommend wearing tennis shoes or other footwear to make the crossing. Once on the island I'm told there is now an entrance fee (5.00). The light house is across the island but it's an easy hike and quite picturesque although entrance is not allowed. The rocky shores of the island make fun exploring and great photo ops.
