Girls' Weekend in Vegas

A June 2005 trip to Las Vegas by Andria808

Quote: We were feeling a little decadent, so the three of us jetted off to Las Vegas for a girls' weekend of sun, beer, food, and roulette. Vegas is overwhelming but not disappointing.

I've never been to real New York City, so maybe my perception is ignorant, but I thought this hotel was pretty fun. All of the landmarks are there, Tavern on the Green (although this one is high stakes tables, not a restaurant), Brooklyn Bridge, steaming potholes, but it's all within walking distance. Whoever designed this hotel must have been given the instructions "make it look like they're outside as much as you can." The rooms were very nice and casually elegant. Ours was a standard double done in a nice very modern decor. The beds were comfy, the bathroom well lit with good shower pressure, the view good, but not great. My only real complaint about the room was that there wa...Read More

Gonzalez Y Gonzalez New York New York Hotel & Casino

Restaurant | "Gonzalez y Gonzalez"

Gonzalez y Gonzalez was not a very impressive experience. The menu consists of typical Mexican fare, nothing exceptional, and it was delivered very quickly. That's about all that impressed me. The food wasn't good at all. It was about one small step up from Taco Bell, and all tasted like it had been prepared earlier in the day and then just heated up. Our waiter was competant, but unimpressive. He took our order quickly and without any personality, and then didn't come back. All the food was brought out separately by different people, none of whom asked if we wanted anything else. The next time we saw our waiter he was bringing the check, which we hadn't asked for becuase we wanted another...Read More

Cravings at the Mirage

We went to Cravings specifically because we had heard it was one of the best buffets in Vegas. $22.50 for brunch, and I was not that impressed. There was a lot of food. The sheer volume was overwhelming and when we were first seated, all I could think was "I'll never find my way around here." I quickly found out that, yes, there is a lot of food, but I don't want to eat too much of it.The whole restaurant is sectioned off: Chinese, Italian, comfort food, salad, dessert, etc. The Italian food was just pizza--no pastas, no breads. Comfort foods was eggs, French toast, and oatmeal. Yes, I like those foods, but not for $22. While everything was very good to look at, eating it wasn't as much fu...Read More

Il Fornario at New York-New York

Restaurant | "Il Fornaio"

Quote:
Il Fornaio is a very cute Italian restaurant located along a busy corridor at the New York-New York hotel and casino. We had about a fifteen minute wait on a Friday night, which wasn't a problem at all. Once we were seated at an inside booth we were brought out an assortment of breads with olive oil. The booth was comfortable, not too soft, not too hard. The restaurant itself was comfortable, not very private, but not exposed by any means. It was better lit than most restaurants, especially quasi-fancy ones, but again, not uncomfortable. Actually the lighting was kind of refreshing because we could read the menu and see each other without struggling. The draft beers are pretty standard Bud, Bud Light,...Read More
