Trips to North Little Rock

A November 2005 trip to Little Rock by amjohnson

I often visit North Little Rock for a day of shopping and going out to eat or sometimes even for an overnight trip. There are many places there to shop and eat.

I have visited North Little Rock numerous times for day and overnight trips. I always enjoy going there and eating and shopping. They have a large number of restaurants and shops to choose from.

For shopping the McCain mall is very nice. It has Dillard's, JC Penney, Sears, Gap, Old Navy, Victoria’s Secret, Hallmark, and many more stores. It is easy to get to and is in a safe area. There is also a Sam’s, Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, Toys R Us, Burlington, Bed Bath and Beyond, Linens and Things, Gander Mountain, Colony Shop, Steinmart, and many more stores in the area.

For places to eat there are many to choose from as well. Some of my favorites are Outback, Red Lobster, Chili’s, Roadhouse Grill, Olive Garden, TGI Fridays, Jason’s Deli, McDonald's, and Lone Star. They also have Sonic, Wendy’s, IHOP, US Pizza, Dixie Café, Shorty Smalls, and many more. North Little Rock also has the Alltel area, which hosts many concerts and sporting events. Coming in January is my favorite singer George Strait. All of the shopping and restaurants are close together, and the people are always friendly. Next to the mall is a shopping area called Lakewood Village that has many shops and restaurants. Also, Target is across from the mall, and the other stores I named are all pretty much less than 1 mile from the mall.

The traffic does get a little congested during Christmastime. They have just redesigned the roads around there, though, so I think it will flow a lot better this year.

During my last visit to North Little Rock I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express hotel on Mc Cain Boulevard. I really liked this hotel and would definitely stay there again. The rates were really good, they have an indoor pool, and it is in a great location, close to all the shops and restaurants.

Quick Tips:

I would recommend staying at the Holiday Inn Express if you are in this area to do some shopping and eating, since it is very close to everything and a really nice, clean hotel with good rates.

I like many of the restaurants in this area. I recommend trying Jason’s Deli for lunch or Chuck E. Cheese's if you have kids. My son loves to take a break from the shopping and go eat there. They have lots of games and activities for kids of many different ages.

For dinner my favorites are Outback, Red Lobster, Chili’s, and Roadhouse. They are all great places to eat, and the service has always been good.

Best Way To Get Around:

Your best bet in this area would be either driving or renting a car. The things are close together but not close enough that I would go without a vehicle. There is not much in the form of public transportation and not many taxis around either. The Little Rock airport is not very far from North Little Rock and easy to get to and from. It is a pretty small airport, so you do not have to arrive too early when flying out.
I stayed at the hotel during my last visit to North Little Rock. We arrived at the hotel around 2pm and were about to go ahead and check in and were upgraded to a suite room. When entering the hotel from the front, the desk is on the right, and then across from it is the breakfast area that also has a nice TV if you want to just sit and visit with people during the day. The front-desk staff was very nice and friendly.

We unloaded and went to our room. It was on the third floor (this hotel has four floors). Our room had a sitting area with a small refrigerator, microwave, and sink. It also had a couch, coffee table, and a desk. Then there was a king-size bed and a TV on top of a chest. There were nightstands on both sides of the bed. There was also a closet and iron and ironing board in the entrance to the room. There was a nice-sized bathroom with a large vanity that had plenty of storage space. The tub was a whirlpool tub and had a really nice shower head above it. The tub was very small, though; I would honestly say it was probably the smallest I had ever been in. I am small, so it was not a huge problem for me, but many would have a problem with it! The towels were some of the better ones I have used at hotels and were thick and fluffy, and the bed was also soft and really comfortable. The room was quiet, and I never heard anyone else.

The hotel served a continental breakfast every morning. The breakfast had fresh cinnamon rolls, fruits, bagels, waffles, toast, biscuits and gravy, cereal, muffins, coffee, water, milk, and juice. The food was really good, and it all tasted fresh. I was really impressed that they had sugar-free waffle syrup.

The hotel also has an indoor pool on the first floor. We went to it the afternoon we checked in and it was great. It was a fairly large pool, and the water temperature was warm and felt good. We were the only ones in the pool area, so it was pretty peaceful. They also have towels for you in the pool area, but they are quite small. There was also a fitness center in the pool area.

The hotel is located close to many restaurants and shops: Lowe’s, Home Depot, and a service station are all next to the hotel. The McCain mall is about half a mile, and so are many restaurants, like Red Lobster, Outback, Shorty Smalls, Chili's, TGI Fridays, Olive Garden, Chuck E. Cheese's, and many more.

I really liked this hotel and will stay there again on my next visit.

Restaurant

I have eaten at this restaurant a number of times during my visits to North Little Rock. It is a nice clean place with friendly staff. It is also in a good location, close to many of the shops.

You walk in the door, go through a line and place your order, go on down and pay, and then either pick up your food or a number if your food is not ready. If you get a number, your food is always quickly delivered to your table. You next fix your own drinks and salad if you order one. You also find your own seat.

They offer a variety of sandwiches, soups, and salads, and the food is always good. I usually get a manager's special, which is half of any sandwich and a bowl of any soup. I usually get the Reuben sandwich and gumbo soup, and they are both great. They also have soft-serve ice cream for you to help yourself to.

I will continue to return to this restaurant in the future.
