A November 2005 trip

Quote: Victorian House, a charming resort on a beautiful bay with a most accommodating staff makes for a perfectly relaxing week.
Staff is friendly and most accommodating. Showing appreciation in the beginning of the week with a few dollars or trinkets brought from home will endear you greatly.
There are bargains with whatever and wherever you shop. Offer 25% of asking price and never pay more than 50%.
Book tours in town and not at hotel since you get same tour for substantially less.
The casino in town, Playa Chiquita, will pay for your cab fare () from hotel when driver accompanies you inside so don't pay him yourself (since he will go inside anyway and get paid again).

In addition to buffet La Bahia, there are 4 restaurants on the property. Each is not open every night. The Mexican/Caribbean "El Patio", was best of bunch only open on Friday, Sunday and Monday. The Italian/Mediterranean known as "Sabatini" is open every night except on Sunday. It has a limited menu included with the all inclusive with a $15 surcharge for other dishes but you should be able to find something from that which is included. This menu changes daily. The Asian, "Marco Polo" was disappointing because it was bland but this is coming from a couple who frequents Chinatown in NYC and enjoys the Szechuan taste. We did not try the French restaurant as that required a $25 additional charge per person.
Service in all the restaurants was very good. Note that reservations are required and can be made a day ahead. Don't be disappointed if you get closed out since I would go to the restaurant on same day, speak to a staff person and $1-2 should get you a table since there always appeared to be empty tables (people reserve and don't show). The buffet La Bahia is the only place for breakfast and lunch. The selections at each are ample and were actually good, for a buffet. There is a different theme each night and, again, we found the food to be very good. On Tuesday the seafood buffet included grilled lobster and shrimp.
