The Palm Springs area in June is HOT but very manageable. Golf, swimming, nightime street fairs, casinos, outdoor dining, and beautiful sunsets are all part of the things you can see and do. If you are not afraid of a little hot weather, read on.

Sunset at Cimarron Golf Resort
Best Things Nearby:
Cimmaron Golf Resort is only steps away from your front door. Otherwise you will need a car to see the sights of the Palm Springs area. During this time of the year your options during the day are limited due to the heat. But there are Indian casinos, museums, and pleanty of indoor dining near by.

Best Things About the Resort:
Being walking distance from the Cimmaron Golf Resort is a big plus if you golf. The resort offers discount fees. Again, because of the temperature this time of the year we booked early tee-times at several of the golf resorts. Play golf in the early hours of the day, then enjoy the afternoon and early evening by the pool before venturing out for dinner. The Cimmeron Golf Resort is also the best place to watch a sunset in Palm Springs at this time of the year. Rocking chairs are put out by the resort for you to enjoy the view. And it is only a short walk from your room.

Resort Experience:
Likes: Very large rooms with high ceilings and separate kitchen and dining areas. The second bedroom in the two-bedroom unit is actually a suite with its own sitting area, television, and mini kitchen, and is also very spacious. The grounds are well maintained. Each unit has its own two-car garage, which comes in handy to get your car out of the mid-day sun. A big swimming pool and spa is only steps from your back door. We had a ground floor unit, which I recommend. Your back patio opens up to an expansive lawn area. From there you are only steps from the pool and laundry facility. Next-door is the Cimarron Golf Resort. Discount tee times are available. The facility offers two courses; one 18-hole, and one 9-hole course. The restaurant is only open for breakfast and lunch most days. Wednesday they serve dinner. The Golf Resort is also an excellent place to watch the sunset. The views are incredible and the golf resort provides outdoor rocking chairs to sit in and enjoy the sunset. Bring a cool drink, a camera, and watch the sun go down. Dislikes: no exercise equipment on-site. They do share exercise equipment with Vista Mirage Resort (#2501). The literature says the facility is only 1 mile away. Actually, it is about 5 miles away and the Vista Mirage exercise room is small and is limited in equipment and amenities. The laundry facility is on-site, but not in the room. The laundry facility is located adjacent to the pool facility and is very adequate, and best of all it is free. Other than the Golf Resort there is nothing else within walking distance of the resort. A car is an absolute must.

Fisherman's Market & GrillBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Fisherman's Market & Grill"

This restaurant was recommended by a local that we golfed with. Turns out to be a very unique experience. This is literally a fish market. It refers to itself as "The Fresh Fish Joint." You can buy fresh fish and take it back to your room or have them cook it for you. Dining is very casual. At the Palm Desert location, we sat outside at plastic patio tables. It is located in a large strip mall.

There is also indoor dining at picnic bench tables. You name it they have it. Various fresh fish, clams, scallops, mussels, crab, and oysters. All plates are served with coleslaw, and french fries or rice pilaf. You can have your selection charbroiled or fried. You start by selecting what you want from their daily chalkboard. Then select how you want it cooked. They then assign you a number, you find a seat, and when your meal is ready they bring it to you. If fresh fish is not for you they also offer fish and chips, and other seafood and chips offerings, soups, salads, and fish tacos. For dessert they have Key lime pie and cheesecake. Wine and beer are also available. Our group had a little bit of everything and enjoyed it all. There are three other locations besides the one in Palm Desert. They are La Quinta, Palm Springs, and in Shanghai Reds in Palm Springs. If you love fresh fish, a reasonably priced meal, casual dining, and mingling with the locals, the Fisherman's Market & Grill is your place.

Attraction

Cimarron Golf Couse
This is an excellent public golf facility. Cimarron offers a choice of playing an 18-hole championship length course, or an equally stunning 18-hole executive length course. We did not play the executive course. The 18-hole course winds around a large flood wash. Balls hit out of the fairway can wind up in this wash, making for sand bunker-like shots. Be careful on hole number one. If you are a long driver your first shot can end up in the wash, which is not visible from the tee. There is also a golf school, the Dave Pelz Scoring Game School. We did not use this facility. If you would like more information about the Pelz Golf School at Cimarron Golf Club you can call (800)833-7370. www.cimarrongolf.com.

Thursday evening from 6 to 10pm in Palm Springs on Palm Canyon Drive there is an open-air craft fare and market. It makes for a nice evening stroll. There is music, crafts, and food. It also provides an opportunity to do a lot of people watching. Enjoy dinner before or after your stroll. Can be a bit crowded and the overall assortment of items is somewhat limited. But you never know, there may just be that perfect piece of jewelry or special souvenir just for you.
