Enjoy a day visiting the largest indigenous Indian market in South America. You will be shopping not only with other tourists but with the people who live in the area. It's a joyous glow of color and value.

Quick Tips:

Don't buy the first thing you see but try and remember where you saw what you wanted, as it's easy to get lost.

Best Way To Get Around:

Walk, walk, walk--it's the only way!

There are many "local restaurants" surrounding the market area. I would suggest looking for one that is filled with locals, not tourists! Many of them have strolling musicians wandering in and out of them, playing the local music and adding to the enjoyment of your meal. Try the local beer. You will be surprised with its quality.

Attraction | "Otavalo Butcher"

The indigenous people of the area also use the market to buy their staples and necessities. Wouldn't you love to go to this butcher shop to buy your meats?

Do not think that youa re being asked to buy a product from a vendor at their lowest price. Haggle, haggle, haggle! Don't feel badly about offering 40% of the asking price. You may not get it there, but 50% could be your "settlement" price!
