San Francisco

A November 2005 trip to San Francisco by oddtree

We went to San Francisco for the Rolling Stones concert (great show by the way). We spent a couple nights in the Radisson on Fisherman's wharf.

Hotel | "Radisson Hotel Fisherman's Wharf"

The hotel is a great location - a quick walk to Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39. You could even hear the sea lions on the pier when the A/C was off in the room. We got a good deal since we were staying midweek in mid-November. The accommodations weren't anything special, but the location was ideal. Parking was expensive. We never even used our car. You can easily get on the cable car after a 10 minute walk, and you can get anywhere else in a bus or cab. Driving is just more of a hassle than it's worth in this part of San Francisco.

Restaurant | "House of Nanking"

We ordered beef with broccoli and hot and sour soup - some of our American Chinese food standbys. The waiter (I think he was also the owner) told us that he could come up with something better if we let him pick our meals - so we did. We got two delicious dishes: fried eggplant and sweet potatoes, and chicken and mushrooms. After you add on our drinks, tax, and tip, the total was $32 for way too much food for two people to eat.

We've eaten here several times when we've been in San Francisco. We've always had good service and good food. They serve a wide variety of Italian dishes, many with seafood. I had the scallops and shrimp risotto. The risotto was well-cooked and very flavorful. Great selection of desserts and coffees as well.

We tried to stop here to sit outside and have a cocktail. We didn't get any service for over 20 minutes, so we ended up going elsewhere.

Great breakfast location. Outdoor seating on the main street in Sausalito right across from the water. Seating is very limited outside, though--I think there were only four tables. Food was good--typical American breakfast food.
