Having read the Foxfire books during formative years, we were excited to visit the home of grassroots project whose name has since become synonomous with mountain lore and crafts.
The museum itself is small but filled with handcrafted tools, toys and implements. We marveled at split oak baskets, wooden plows, hand carved toys and kitchen gadgets, wooden buckets and barrels whose staves were individually hand fashioned then fitted with machine precision. The art of hand carving wooden implements has been kept alive through the efforts of Foxfire and local artisans.
