A great place to eat for casual or fine dining. Known for the best margaritas and wings in town, this is a local favorite! Great value, plenty of variety, and excellent service. The dining room is non-smoking, with an attached bar and outdoor patio for smoking options. Open 11am-10pm Sun-Thurs and 11am-11pm Fri & Sat. Bar open until 2am every day.

Harbaugh's Cafe

Restaurant

Quote:
A unique and fresh alternative for breakfast and lunch. The food is wonderful, and the decor is interesting. The servers are friendly and upbeat, and they offer daily specials which are not on the menu.

Newell House Coffee Cafe

Restaurant | "The Newell House"

Quote:
This is a cozy, elegant little place with a variety of fine dining choices. The price range allows for anything from $5 individual gourmet pizzas to more expensive steaks. The decor is beautiful, and service is professional and polite. They have a great selection of after-dinner drinks and also serve wines. Don't forget to have coffee and dessert. I recommend the Chocolate Beyond Reason. It is unreasonably good!

El Greco

Restaurant

Quote:
This is a great little place to have very good gyros in an area far away from the city. It's small and not very fancy, but the food is great! The fried mushrooms are excellent, and they serve a limited selection of alcohol. They also deliver!

Mississippi Flyway

Restaurant

Quote:
This restaurant is almost entirely smoking, and even the non-smoking areas are extremely smoky, due to the fact that the smoking tables are hardly separated from the non. The animal heads mounted on the wall appeared to have been there for decades and probably hadn't been cleaned in that time, either. Their "Italian Beef" sandwich is served with brown gravy all over it, which is not mentioned on the menu. The waitress seemed afraid to change even the smallest detail on my order, for fear that the cooks would make an issue of it. Also, the inside of the mustard lid had mold growing in it.

Carboz

Attraction

Quote:
Carboz itself is a cool place to go dancing, with an ample bar and dance floor and a nice variety of danceable music. Within Carboz, however, is a 21-and-over-only martini bar where you can get any one of a couple dozen flavors of martini, from the Snickertini to the Sex in the City martini. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable, not to mention excellent at pouring drinks!

Tres Hombres

Attraction

Quote:
Tres has some of the most experienced and knowledgeable bartenders in town. They'll pour you an excellent margarita, the house specialty, with just about any tequila you've ever heard of, or a fantastic Bloody Mary, or a great martini. There's also live music on Monday and Thursday nights and appetizers until 11pm, and it's a great place to watch the game! This bar is a good place for adults of any age to have a good time.

Von Jakob Vineyard

Attraction

Quote:
This lovely winery is only a 10-minute drive from Carbondale, and well worth the drive. Although southern Illinois is becoming more and more well-known for its local wines, Von Jacob offers some of the tastiest ones around. There's an excellent selection, even for people who don't consider themselves wine drinkers. The atmosphere is casual but beautiful, with seating options inside or on the patio. You can stroll through the vineyard, and they also sell fudge made out of their wine! Talk about divine! They offer a casual lunch option and are open daily until 5:30pm. The employees there are very friendly and really make you feel special, too.

Giant City State Park offers tons to do. Its beautiful scenery makes it a joy for all types of activities, from simple hiking or picnics to rapelling, rock climbing, or drives in the country. There are many shelters available for family or group gatherings, and it's a great place to take your dog (on a leash, please) for an excursion. Many of the trails have been modified with bridges and pathways to make them accessible to more people (older people, baby strollers, or people with disabilities).

Callahan's

Attraction

Quote:
Callahan's is a very nicely done pub with a huge bar and an array of the finest liquors reaching up to the ceiling. Some of these must be accessed using the library-style rolling ladder which slides back and forth in front of the enormous mirrored wall shelving the liquor. Callahan's also has a very good variety of imported bottled beer, draft beer, and an extensive wine list. They serve dinner from 4:30-10pm, and the bar is open until 2am. The food is also quite good, and you get generous portions. For games, they have one of the largest televisions in the Carbondale area. The bartenders are very friendly and knowledgeable, as well.
