Nevertheless, I own one, but this was not gotten through those channels. Once again, Chuck struck gold on the internet, and we were able to get a whole week here for $200. How on earth can one complain? Chuck had arrived here a day earlier than I did, so he had a chance to get a lay of the land. We had our first day and night at another resort, ...Read More

Best Things Nearby: Best Things About the Resort: Resort Experience:So let’s assume that you are booked at the Mayan Palace for a 7-day stay and you don’t want to leave the premises. Your signature and room key is your passport to play, eat, drink, shop, and drop. Cash is not accepted anywhere on the resort grounds, and it’s a smart idea. You’ll have fabulous breakfast buffets or lunches at Bakal, and alternatively, dial ext. 6173 and be served right in bed. You can participate in Bakal’s theme dinners nightly, or make reservations at the Argentina Terrace & Grill, the staff of which will bend over bac...Read More

Bakal is on the grounds of the Mayan Palace and is a great place to eat. Being a history buff, I tried to determine if there was a connection to this name. I could not come up with an exact match but something close. Mayan civilization evolved in the ancient city of Palenque, located in the foothills of Chiapa. King “Pacal” the Great is in the record. I wonder if the folks who designed that gorgeous lily pond outside the reception area knew that one of the important Mayan Gods was Water Lilies Jaguar? It’s nice to see some cohesion in the theme. We had a few breakfasts at Bakal and poked around on Fiesta Mexicana Theme night (different themes daily and a champagne breakfas...Read More

We found a parking spot on a narrow cobblestone street and realized we were in the art gallery district. How fortuitous! Most were still open, but few had any customers or visitors. On Leona Vicario Street 249, I ventured into Galeria Omar Alonso, as my eye caught some fabulous metal sculptures that needed a closer look. Interesting black-and-white photography was displayed on the walls, and in the back were two more rusty metal sculptures, both with head down, one looked as if it were diving into the water, and the other may have been doing the same thing but had one hand on its head. Both knees were completely bent, which makes the diving theory suspicious, but then again, it’s art. When in the a...Read More

There are so many worthy restaurants at the Malecon that one would be hard-pressed not to try them all! I was ready to just plop anywhere after a day of walking around the area--we had walked the entire length of the seawall, stopped to admire each and every sculpture, took some photos for other couples, and had our photo taken as well. I had a yen for a Cuban sandwich, but the restaurant seemed to burst at the seam with people, so I gave up that idea. However, not very far from my original idea was La Chata. I didn’t even wait for them to welcome me in and started immediately up the stairs. They apparently are famous in Guadalajara, so why not? It is impossible to miss if you eat here, becau...Read More

They claim that it’s el lugar mas bonito de Puerto Vallarta, and it may just be (the most beautiful place in PVR)! It’s authentic, it’s alive, and it hums all day and into the early evening. Isla Rio Cuale is smack in the middle of downtown and comprises the largest flea market here, or anywhere I’ve seen in all of Mexico. You need to go down a circular stone stairway; you’ll be forced to stop as the gurgling of the running stream will catch your attention. Below you’ll see a street to the left teeming with stores selling all sorts of souvenirs, crafts, silver galore, sombreros, etc. Directly ahead is the road that leads to the outdoor market, which is connected over the river by suspended br...Read More
