My own favorite is downtown Charleston. There is shopping, history, the college kids roaming around, old stores, horse-drawn carriages, the old slave market and a view of the bay.

Quick Tips:

A quick tip: being a very poor state, it is easy to end up in bad neighborhood in Charleston. Watch where you go and you can still have a good time.

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way around is to have a car, but to park it and walk as much as possible.

This little place was God-send. A married couple with a son have renovated their old home into a place where they live up front and have two ''rooms'' for rent in back. They did not require a deposit and left us a key in the mailbox, because they were at work when they arrived. It is exactly what it says: bed, but no breakfast. The two rooms, rented separately, share a bathroom, which has a little refrigerator in it.
